Oh it's silly, but not enough to make me not want to watch it which is what I'm sure a not insignificant amount of people think when they hear a new movie coming out in 4:3 lol.

It's just not as big a deal as people pretend it is, it's just silly in the year of our Lord 2021 when all TVs are a different ratio

TVs have been exclusively 16:9 for years now. Monitors sure they're all over the place, but I don't think any major brand has released a not 16:9 TV since 2014 (Samsung released a hueg ass 21:9 then)

There's movie where an odd aspect ratio is fine like The Lighthouse (with it's weird ass 6:5 ratio) or Grand Budapest Hotel.

But for this not so much

    Finished the movie.

It's definitely an expanded version of Justice League. It's generally more of that, but with more slo-mo, muted colors and all the changes. The increased focus on Stepdadwolf and all the exposition really made this so much more cohesive than the original version. He felt really menacing and important to the story in this as opposed to a throwaway villain like the original and it gave the movie grander stakes and way more tension.

Good job for Snyder, this was his best DCEU effort, but I still don't think it needed to be 4hrs long. Not even close. 6/10

PS the Flash he was awful and I didn’t laugh once with his lame jokes.

Movie is not bad, but they really needed to just split the thing up truly and make it episodic like Wandavision. They already kinda sorta did that, Snyder needed to just take it all the way cause a lot of scenes could have ended an episode with a tease, but instead just transitioned weird into a new part or totally different scene that wasn't as good as what we were watching a moment ago.

It doesn't help that the entire main and side cast of characters are acting at all different levels. Good actors got bad lines, bad actors wasted good ones, it's just a mess. Overall tho did enjoy it. If I hadn't watched the original I'd say this movie was fine and has me excited for what's next. Knowing these people tho I shouldn't expect much.

I missed batflecks humor from the original, but maybe Im in the minority on that. I like the flash even more, even though I don't like how forced he is when he's with Mamoa. Also I'm over Wonder Woman. I just don't get it. Whatever.

Cyborg probably benefited the most from this cut though. His character is fleshed out sooo much more and he actually does a good job pulling it off. I forget the actors name that plays the dad, but he was aight this time; not his best work imo. Great use of the character compared to what Whedon did tho. Whedon had all this on paper ready to go and decided to make what he made instead? Wtf was he thinking

If we didn't already have the JW version to compare it to and this was a brand new, fresh thing, then yeah, I'd agree a more episodic release style would have suited it more. But since we have already seen the shitty version and the plot isn't really all that different (just beefed up more), I don't think having it come out week to week would have worked purely because we wouldn't have the hype of not knowing what's gonna come next.

It'd be the Wandavision Mephisto/Luke Skywalker cameo shit all over again, but this time it'd just be people complaining about how the conclusion is more or less identical to the original release lol. "They fucking teased this character but he wasn't in the final fight, WTF??!?!" that sorta bullshit

Releasing it all at once and letting people compare it to the JW version is definitely the best way to go with this only purely because the JW version already exists

Okay I'm doing part 2 of my viewing. Far as I can tell that damn russian family is gone from the movie? Thats the best thing about this cut.

Honestly the whole climax of the movie is WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY better than the original cut. It's been worth it just for this.

Movie would've been pretty solid had it been just 3 hrs.

    Spoiler: show
Why did Flash have his powers already? DIdnt he get his powers at the police lab? A job he did not have yet and only got at the end of the movie? maybe I am reading to much into this but it just seems like the flash that fought with them was from another timeline. Especially looking at his set up when Bruce found him. Unlike a lot of comments I liked him, I guess people also freaking out when he saves Iris not knowing who she was? I got what they were going for with him being super gentle with her, he cant just grab her at that speed she would be smashed to peices, but at the same time people will call it creepy lol.

    Spoiler: show
I think the insinuation there might have been he'd actually gone back in time as a result of testing his powers and finding out things got weird the closer he got to light speed. Pairing with how the CW show handled some time travel, could probably say he "merged" with his past Barry and was thus at pre-origin life situation, just with powers. Unfortunately paradoxical, but that's also something they handwaved from time to time. Could also emphasize his creeper status on Iris since he would've known her, but had to act like he wouldn't out of bullet time.

Didn't he do time travel in Batman vs Superman? I can't recall if they ever explained that, and I don't recall how the comics go. I didn't even remember that Lois dies at some point?

Lois dying thing was setting up for a future film. Batman's dream at the end hinted at that too

No I get that, I mean canonically I didn't know she dies at some point. I didnt follow the comics when I was younger, and just peruse the wikis and YouTube videos when I find a plot point I think is interesting

The Lois dying tease isn't a comic thing

Except for DC's standard to retcon the entire universe every 5 or so years I don't think they've ever killed Lois

Not main canon, but Injustice did.

Ya I mean I don't know Injustice much but that whole dream seemed very Injustice inspired.

Oh yeah I know of it from the video game, but even then I never knew that to be canon. But also yeah what does canon even mean anymore lol
