I don't get why the Brewers are 20 considering a lot of ESPN analysts were picking them to win the NL central. They actually should be lower than that right now (or higher going by other 0-3 teams on that list), but it doesn't make sense with their poll not making sense.

Baseball isn't exactly a sport that you can take a week off and go right back into it without some sort of rust. Spring training is crucial for pitchers and hitting. If you're pitching well or hitting well during spring training, you're going to pitch well when the regular season starts. Starting pitchers especially need spring training to build arm strength. You don't really need to do that in football.

and Verlander had what.. 22 K's, 3 walks in spring training? then promptly stunk it up in his first game?

I get ST is important.. but it's not THAT important. That's why most people say they disregard stuff like ERA and wins in spring training.

Verlander had a line like 6 IP 3 ER 8 K's - hardly stinking it up

Beachy pitched well in ST, won a rotation spot, and pitched a gem today.

When Lowe's sinker is on, as it has been all spring training and his first start, he is a match for Yovani Gallardo.

The Rangers are off to a fantastic start. I was totally expecting to drop 1-2 games to the preseason favorites prior to the season starting but they came out with bats-a-blazing. Hope they keep at it because the bottom of our starting rotation is weak and inexperienced. They'll need major run support if they plan on winning those games.

Edit: Also, Willie Mays, Mark lolGwire, Nelson Cruz.

This is very true, and hey, if we were like the Pirates/Royals, we'd disregard wins even more!

Shit I didn't know the yanks picked up Andrew Jones. When I was a kid I was so hard for Chipper and Andrew when they were on the Braves together and still have tons of their autographs.

Fucking awesome he hits a homerun in his first game. Good thing yankee stadium is slightly smaller than my back yard.
