NEWS WIRE: Phillies are in talks for every right handed OF available.
Some of the trade rumors are downright stupid. Dom Brown for Beltran? LOL. Wouldn't mind trading WORLY away for someone like Hunter Pence though; Pence would be like $23M total until 2013, and Vance Vance Revolution is due for a huge regression in the near future. Lot of saberists are comparing him to J.A. Happ.
I don't think the Phillies should be overly aggressive at the deadline. Barring some horrific, catastrophic, happening, they'll make the playoffs. Pick up some reliable arms for the bullpen, but not an elite arm. If you can get a solid Matt Stairs, Mike Sweeney right hand bat for the bench, go for it. I'd rather see Dom Brown develop further than Beltran take his place. It's not like they're going to sit Ibanez. Deal Vance in the off season for something nice.
I feel this way too, that they don't -need- anything, but Vance's trade value is never going to be higher than it is right now (yesterday's game earned him a lot of buzz). He's projected at a ~4 ERA guy based on most estimators. I think there's a few expendable pieces in the minors, but considering everyone thinks everyone in our farm is seemingly untouchable...yeah. I'm happy if they do nothing, or make a trade that preserves most of our A-Tier prospects (Cosart, De Fratus, maybe Singleton?, and definitely Dom Brown).
What Ruben wants Ruben gets.

Um, Heady?
@BrentSGambill Doug Melvin & Walt Jocketty just arrived for dinner together at Nicoletta’s in Cooperstown, NY. #NLCentralGMs #fb
What are your GM and my GM doing hanging out together?
Are the Brewers after Janish? Cozart? What's going on? Are the Reds selling?
I don't know, but even though Janish is god awful offensively, your infield defense helps us win games, so giving the BrewCrew Janish would be dumb.
They won't give up Cozart. Want Renteria?
Also I was hearing rumors that the Rays are looking to trade James Shields. He's got a great contract and they're looking for 1b and catcher, who the Reds have in the farm system to trade away. They should've made a deal yesterday.
Since Janish is a vet and he's in AAA, couldn't we just nab him whenever we want? I never quite know how that works. Or did we have to do it when he was sent down at the time?
He's 29, I figured he'd definitely be old enough/in the league long enough.
He also bats .200.
I think that if any team wanted to do it by now, they would've done it.
yuni for renteria, straight up
grass is always greener
league average must suck
From what I understand players are sent down without repercussion or penalty if they have options. Each call-up/subsequent demotion uses an option, and there needs to be 10 days after a demotion for the player to be called up again.
If a team wishes to stash a player with no options back in the minors, they can do so, but run the risk of another team picking the player up from the waiver wire. This is called Designated for Assignment (DFA'd) my best, most recent example is when the Red Sox DFA'd Mike Cameron a couple weeks ago. DFA'd players have the option of accepting assignment to their AAA affiliate or to become free agents (I'm cloudy on this aspect). Also, teams can trade DFA'd players within ten days to any team to try to get value for that player (the sox ended up trading him to the Marlins).
If Yuniesky Betancourt is taking a shit on your side of the grass, yes. In the past 3 years, Yuni hasn't had a UZR/150 better than -9.4, which is fucking awful - and he's -19.5 this season. In the same period, Renteria's worst year was -0.7. He was +6.9 last year and is +1.3 this year.
For reference for you Demos - Miguel Tejada was -9.2 at SS for the Giants this season. Imagine twice as bad.
+6.9 last year?
He was fucking awful last year.
This was a possible deal mentioned for Michael Bourn(pure speculation): Mike Minor, Jordan Schafer, JJ Hoover
Minor is probably a #3 starter at best(although lower in our strong rotation), Hoover is a big kid that throws hard. I would be ok with this move. Just having a guy with speed and patience at the top of the lineup(Bourn usually hovers around .350 OBP) would be soooooooooo nice.
