The problem is not only do they lack another ace behind him, their system is pretty thin on pitching from top to bottom. I guess they hope that White is ready to go out of spring 2012, with Pomeranz and Gardner not that far away. If Chacin and Nicasio can keep it up, that's five pretty good young arms in the mix for rotation slots.

The other side of the coin, as always, is TINSTAAPP (there is no such thing as a pitching prospect.)

Meanwhile, the Cubs are telling people they won't deal Carlos Pena, and it's looking pretty unlikely that Aramis Ramirez will waive his no trade clause.
