I don't know how the MLB determines to postpone games 12 hours before they are scheduled to start, but I live in Arlington and it stopped raining at 1:00 and hasn't rained since. Didn't seem like cancelling Game 2 of the ALCS was necessary. Guess they wanted the players to have ample time to workout and were just being cautious. Hate when they throw the schedule off though.
From what I read there was more rain in the forecast and wanted to avoid a repeat of yesterday.
They should know how fickle Texas weather is. This is the state the can go from snow flurries to 80 degree weather in the same day. A 90% chance of rain and not see a drop or a 10% chance of rain and end up with a flash flood warning.
Usually we just have 40 days straight of 100 degree temps and no rain.
Well this past week sucked, the Phillies lost and I had a death in the family. At least I was spared the misery of watching games 4 and 5.
Its been made abundantly clear that the Phillies need to get younger, and fast, and that starts with them letting Rollins walk. I know that he is still an above average SS, but his lingering lower body injuries in addition to declining speed and defense don't make him worth paying what he will demand. We'll have to sign a stop gap like Furcal for a year or two until Galvis is ready but it will be worth it in the long run. After next year they should also let Victorino (and possibly Ruiz) walk too. Too old, too expensive, and will assuredly decline quickly.
Rollins - bye
Madson - resign
Oswalt - bye, use the money to get someone who can hit
Raul - bye
Lidge - bye
Polanco - 2012 version of Raul, hopefully Rube will sign a real 3B
Kendrick - non tender unless we can somehow trade Blanton
Benny Fresh - would say bye but Howard injury probably forces us to offer arb
Ok enough rosterbation. I don't really care who wins the WS now, I just hope that every series goes 7 games.
Shortstop is so thin that I'd rather have an old Jimmy than a shitty substitute. Also, bullpen is such a fickle thing that I'd rather bring up a rookie (DeFratus, Schwimer, etc.) than overpay Madson, who has Boras as an agent.
Change that list to:
Jimmy: resign, ~3/35 seems fair but any more than that is too much
Madson: walk
Oswalt: walk unless they rework his option to something like 2/8-10 instead of 1/16
Francisco: walk
The rest I agree with. Then put Mayberry at 1B until Howard comes back, Dom Brown in LF, and platoon closer spot with Tony Bastard & Contreras(?)
oh and EXTEND HAMELS
Also resign Jamie Moyer
The weather outside looks terrible. Cancelling yesterday's game for fake rain was a mistake. They are going to end up cancelling today's game for real rain. /sigh
They should resign Rollins, who else are they going to get to play SS? Let Madson, Lidge, Ibanez, walk. If Oswalt is healthy I'm all for him picking up that option. I love that crazy bastard. Even with Oswalt's option, that's a lot of money off the books already. Then you have a lot of minor players like Contreras, Gload, Baez, etc.
It's kinda funny - I was telling my girlfriend that people hate Nyjer Morgan, but if he was doing the same antics in football (like many wide receivers, etc.) - the same people would love him.
I postulated that it's basically because white people want baseball to be a white sport and are threatened by that cocky black swaggering swinging dick in their racist ass sport of old.
I didn't realize how right I was
White people who are cocky and antagonistic are gritty and tough, hispanics are hot-blooded, and blacks are niggers. Loud and clear guys.
Nah if Nyjer did the same shit in the NFL, i'd hate him as well. The guy is a pretty good player, but he is a troll and he's got a shitty temper. Were not that far away from when he uncorked a fastball into the stands when trying to drill someone else. Cut out his temper and tone down some of the taunting he does that puts a bullseye on his back, and a lot more people would like him.
He's just.. a tryhard. I'd be fine with him too if he didn't have the temper of a two year old and played up the alternate personality thing. Clinton Portis did the same thing too, and I didn't really like that shit either. Then again, that was around the time that he was shitting all over fantasy teams, so there's that.
Nyjer's a pretty decent player (way better than I ever gave him credit for), but the attitude's really douchy. I don't care about the 'old time ways of the MLB'.. I just want a decent dude with a sense of self control, lol
That's such a load of horseshit, lol.
I guess if you just watch about 3 ESPN plays of his and nothing else, I can see how you'd come to that conclusion though.
Maybe he should change his name to his number, or cry about his pitcher in a press conference, or blame god for his failures, or one of a billion things that wide receivers do, you guys would like him more. He keeps the team loose, pisses off the opponents, and plays some pretty solid baseball.
But no, I get it, this is baseball, and not only are people not supposed to have fun, they're DEFINITELY not supposed to be "Disrespectful Of The Game" (copyright Tony LaRussa) while black.
Seriously, what have his transgressions this year been? Not charging the mound or fighting anyone at all? Not flipping off the fans in Giants stadium? Crushing some catchers at the plate? Give some entertaining interviews and clutch hits? The "worst" thing he's done is chucking his dipper after Chris Carpenter said "Fuck You" after striking him out. The horror!
So he's a tryhard now, but not two years ago (when Tony Plush was coined)? This isn't Brian Wilson we're talking about here, he's not a hipster. He's entertaining himself and his team, and providing plenty of fodder for the media while he enjoys playing baseball.
It's part of the reason why I enjoy Wilson's antics so much. Yea, the guy has a few screws loose in the head and raises our blood pressure every time he comes out, but the dude is a class act and incredibly fan friendly. Hell the last glove drive the giants did for the junior giants organization he ponied up to buy a thousand gloves on his own on top of what others donated. Nyjer I'd have a feeling if he ever did something like that, would personally piss in every 50th glove.
That sort of shit pisses me off as well. I seriously wanted to bang my head on my desk when I read about the guy who blamed god for him dropping a pass. If there was an all important omnipotent being, I think he'd have a lot more important things to do such as famine and plague instead of causing a guy with stone hands to drop a pass. But seriously archi, were not arguing the fact he's a good player and i'd honestly say I'd have him on the giants, I'm just saying the guy has proved over the years he has the temperment of a four year old with ADD, and he's proved it on every team he's played for.
And I don't see anyone calling Stevie Johnson a nigger despite his headdesking behavior.
So, yeah - my point is proven?
First off, the fuck? did you forget the part of our convo where I said I didn't like Nyjer last year too? Lol. Dude charged the mound and threw a punch after he got thrown at. Yeah I'd be pissed to be thrown at, but throwing a leaping haymaker?
And have you asked my opinion on those other dudes? I used to like Ochocinco for his antics, but it's tiring now. Stevie Johnson.. I hardly even knew who the guy was. And I'd say throwing a ball in the stands or trying to deck a pitcher are pretty bad, but maybe not to you?
He's been a tryhard because he wants the attention. He's a diva of baseball. I fucking hate divas. Case closed.
and if I see the 'n' word thrown around anymore after archi's latest post, I'm dropping the hammer. Seriously. Knock it off because it's pissing me off.
