So three sub-par years mostly due to injuries and he still was an elite masher. Point proven. No shit he was grossly overpaid, when you're dealing with nine-figure contracts, chances are the dude is overpaid.
It's not like they made some guy who's rocking a sub 110 OPS+ for his career the highest paid player in his position or anything.
Except Theo's success record in FA isn't good, at all.You can call out Theo all you want but the same goes for all big spending teams. The more you pay guys, the bigger the successes and failures of those signings. We could play this same game with the Mets, Cubs, Dodgers, Angels, etc.
I'm not going to get into the debate about contract failures of big market teams but if you think a player who hit .260/.404/.521 with 209 homers during his tenure with the team belongs in the same category as a Dice-K, Pavano, Igawa, Coco Crisp or whoever you are pants-on-head retarded.
Also Giambi tanked right after he left the Yankees so you could even argue that the Yankees got the most out of that contract by having him for most of his prime and not the "some prime years and also through his 40s" bullshit like they have with A-rod. You can't just say "oh they paid him $23m during his last year that makes it bad deal" while ignoring the fact they paid him $10m in 2002 to hit .314/.435/.598.
you are wrong anyways, but NOBODY GIVES A FUCK SO SHUT THE FUCK UP.
Let's talk about the giants' 5 game winning streak instead. I mean 6 once matty ice pitches this afternoon
I'm on a 4 year streak in my money leagues of having 3+ on the DL at once. I've got Sandoval and Zimmerman on the DL right now in my money league and Neftali Perez just came off the DL. My offense has been choking bad lately though. It's like i'm fielding a full team of Carl Crawfords.
So, Prince hit his 200th homer yesterday, and this fucking douche at Miller Park self-titled "The Happy Youngster" caught the ball - he's caught like 50 homers in his life, and likes to hold balls for ransom and be a general douche about it.

Yes, he has a fucking website so he can jerk himself off in public. http://www.happyyoungster.com/

Oh and guess what? He's a cop.The child impersonator is well known among the ballhawk community and gained national scorn when he produced a list of demands for then Florida Marlins' rookie Chris Coghlan on his first career homerun ball. The Marlins' star eventually got his ball, but admitted that Yohanek was a real douchebag about it."He wasn't the most polite or respectful guy about the whole process," Coghlan said Thursday. "He told me he goes around a lot and catches these balls and holds them for ransom — even though he doesn't say that he does, it seems that way."
Man it figures beltran is having a huge year in his walk year lol. At least we'll get a half season out of it. He's looked great at the plate all year. He might actually be able to play for 3 more years if he keeps hitting like that.
Does that mean we have to wait until a contract is over to judge it? If so then let the John Lackey hate begin, October 2014. I mean, he could put up Cy Young-caliber numbers in 2013 and be a steal for all we know.
The length of the Giambi contact was precisely why it was a bad deal. Take away that '02 season and his Yankee career looks a little less savory. Even if he managed to maintain high OBP and ISO numbers into the costly portions of his deal, a seven-year contract for a guy with "old player" skills, zero defense and even less baserunning was a bad idea any way you slice it. Not Dice-K bad, but that's not exactly fair either.
Anyway, in summation, I pretty much hate all long-term contacts since the risk of injury and regression increases exponentially. And every team has free agent signings that make no sense as soon as the ink is dry. I still wake up in a cold sweat in the middle of the night seeing:

That's exactly what I'm saying, why would you judge a contract before it's complete? That's like judging a trade right after it's made, it's a popular thing to do but it's also incredibly pre-mature.
I'm not getting into this whole debate, but if Lackey put up two Cy-caliber years wouldn't it validate the contract? That's my point. If so then let the John Lackey hate begin, October 2014. I mean, he could put up Cy Young-caliber numbers in 2013 and be a steal for all we know.
Overpaid, sure. Bad, for a guy who put up those numbers? No. You can't just cherry pick certain years and say it makes the contract as bad as those other guys. Yes, he was slow on the bases and a poor defender. He was also a 1b, and his production was above league average for that position. You can say he was paid too much all you want, but it's not like he didn't produce. He's in the same boat as Soriano is with the Cubs really... good numbers, just really overpaid.
He was on pace to hit 56 hr at the start of the year, I hope he does it. Gogo soriano.
So since the fantasy baseball thread has kinda fallen off and this thread is a lot more active I'll propose this question here.
Managers vetoing trades in fantasy baseball - for or against it?
Recently my league has been in an uproar over trades. How it currently works is that if 5 people object (which IMO is too few since it's a 14 man league) then it goes to the commissioner for review where he can approve or deny it. He hasn't denied any trades so far which a few people are pissed about, but I completely agree with. How I see it, the only reason to deny a trade is if there is obvious collusion or it's an EXTREMELY unbalanced trade for some reason. A trade I made earlier in the season is still being bitched about because it had 7 objections and still approved [the trade was Scutaro, Papi, Lincecum to him, Fielder, Alexi Rameriz, Liriano to me], but there's a lot of internal issues that are hard to explain here since everyone in my league knows each other (one asshole objects to EVERY trade, a few objected because they were after Lincecum, others don't like each other, etc).
My position is that I'm completely against it (especially anonymous vetos that exist in my league) and that is the reason why we have a commish. I don't think anyone should have the option to tell me how I manage my team, especially when they can veto a trade without offering a legitimate reason other than "I don't want him to beat me when I play him". Does this come up in anyone elses leagues? Even including football ones?
giants should have 8 runs by now...super unlucky
