Wow, never saw this thread before. I really like the original Total Recall. I hope they don't mess this up.
I don't really see the point though.
If they want to remake some movies they should go back to the 1930s through 1950s and remake some of the great comedies and war movies that were made then.
Totally agree with the old movies. Total Recall was fine as is. Next thing you know they'll be remaking The Running Man.Wow, never saw this thread before. I really like the original Total Recall. I hope they don't mess this up.

Jessica Biel is circling one of two female lead roles in Sony Pictures' Total Recall reboot. If cast, she will star opposite Colin Farrell. Sony has offered her the role, but no negotations has begun. It's unclear which role she would play.
Sharon Stone played Lori and Rachel Ticotin played Melina in the original 1990 Arnold Schwarzenegger starrer. The film follows "Douglas Quaid, a man who believes he is a secret agent and ends up on a Martian colony where he fights to overthrow a ruler controlling the production of air." It was first thought that Biel would play the role of Melina, but Variety reports that there's a chance she may play the other character. A number of actresses have gone out for the roles including Eva Mendes, Kate Bosworth and Paula Patton, and sources say the decision for the other lead is still being considered.
The reboot will be directed by Len Wiseman, with Farrell playing the Schwarzenegger role and Bryan Cranston attached to play the villain. Neal H. Moritz and Toby Jaffe are producing with Mark Bomback and James Vanderbilt scripting. The original film was directed by Paul Verhoeven based on a Philip K. Dick short story. It grossed more than $250 million at the worldwide box office.

Kate Beckinsale is set to star opposite Colin Farrell in the remake of Total Recall for Sony Pictures. She will play Lori (originally played by Sharon Stone) one of the lead roles. The other part up for grabs is the role of Melina (originally played by Rachel Ticotin) in Paul Verhoeven's 1990 version. A number of actresses have been in contention for the leads. Jessic Biel was up for an uknown lead role (possibly the one Beckinsale just got). Eva Mendes and Rosario Dawson are the serious contenders for the to play Melina. Beckinsale is no stranger to the film's director, Len Wiseman. Not only are they married, but they worked together on the Underworld films. She is also attached to star in The Trials of Kate McCullough, to be directed by Karen Moncrieff, and is currently shooting Underworld 4: New Dawn.

(Sharon Stone was such a fox in her day)
^ Seconded
I guess I'm not too bent out of shape about Colin being chosen but, I dunno.
This movie wont be the same without all the silly one-liners and there are a ton.
Paul Verhoeven could never make the movies he made in the 80's, and i include TR even though it was 1990, in today's watered down and soft society. That should be enough to tell you this is going to suck. I love Bryan Cranston but come on. Stop making remakes, for fucks sake.
Unfortunately it's the same in the video game market right now also. MK9, remakes of God of War / Ico / Shadow of the Colossus, etc. The idea pool for both film and video games is so stagnant that rehashes of poplar cult classics / franchises were inevitable.
I'm sure they'll have Arnold come in and make a cameo at the very least. Still, not sure if this will be any good... there's so many other good short-stories that have never been adapted to film, why keep remaking the same ones over and over... of course, this is assuming people in Hollywood actually read good short stories...
I'm still hoping they agree to adapt Old Man's War, one of my favorite Sci-Fi novels of recent years. Wiki says it's optioned by Paramount, but no info yet >.>

http://geektyrant.com/news/2011/7/14...al-recall.htmlCheck out this first image for the Len Wiseman directed remake/adaptation of Collin Farell in Total Recall. The image comes from Entertainment Weekly, and I like what I'm seeing. There are some really cool designs.
I find it interesting that this movie has a budget of $120 million dollars and the live-action Akira film being made only has a $90 million dollar budget. Akira is such a huge effects heavy world, I hope they can pull it off. As for Total Recall, I think it could turn out being a really cool film.
The film was written by Kurt Wimmer, Mark Bomback, and James Vanderbilt, and also stars Kate Beckinsale, Jessica Biel, Bill Nighy, Ethan Hawk and Bryan Cranston. Farrell plays Douglas Quaid, a factory worker in the latter who begins to believe he is a spy, although he doesn't know for which side. The movie will ditch the Martian storyline from the original pic and instead involves nation states Euromerica and New Shanghai.
Here are a few more details for the film that were offered up in EW from Ferrell,
“the tone will be much less jokey” than Arnold Schwarzenegger‘s 1990′s sci-fi hit. He says, “there’s not as much tongue-in-cheek” and that he wouldn’t feel comfortable delivering lines like ‘Consider dat a divorce!’” We know “the new story involves nation states Euromerica and New Shanghai, with Douglas Quaid (Farrell) a factory worker in the latter who begins to believe he is a spy, although he doesn’t know for which side.” Cranston plays Vilos Cohaagen, “the leader of Euromerica who, under the cover of protecting his people, is secretly readying an invasion of New Shanghai.”

No mars = do not want
Schwarzenegger needs to make a movie about him swooping in and aborting this piece of shit.
This movie needs to get its ass to Mars.
Collin Farell rarely dissapoints, i have high hopes for this film
To this movie:
Screeeew youuu!
Then whats the point?“the tone will be much less jokey” than Arnold Schwarzenegger‘s 1990′s sci-fi hit. He says, “there’s not as much tongue-in-cheek” and that he wouldn’t feel comfortable delivering lines like ‘Consider dat a divorce!’”
And no mars? Just call it something else and make a new movie.
Pretty obvious the only reason they're calling it Total Recall is name recognition.
Bait 'n switch at work here.
