A post on Eurogamer this morning taught me two things: one, there’s a remake of the 1990 Arnold Schwarzenegger classic, Total Recall, now starring Colin Farrel as Quaid; and two, that there’s going to be a browser-based, free-to-play MMO based on that remake.
Why didn’t someone think of this sooner?
The game is being developed by ZQGame, a Chinese studio, with SEE Games publishing. The game will feature PVP and PVE features, as well as a “memory quest” mode, which is probably much cooler than it sounds.
Said Sony Pictures executive Mark Caplan about the game:
The remake is scheduled to hit theaters in August of next year, so expect the game sometime around then.“Total Recall is an international phenomenon; we know this well-known property will make a great 3D browser based game […] with SEE Games and ZQGame’s expertise, Total Recall will offer fans of the franchise and gamers alike an engaging and authentic experience – one that will deliver everything that the fans expect and will dovetail perfectly with the upcoming film.”

Official Synopsis;
"Total Recall" is an action thriller about reality and memory, inspired anew by the famous short story “We Can Remember It For You Wholesale” by Philip K. Dick. Welcome to Rekall, the company that can turn your dreams into real memories. For a factory worker named Douglas Quaid (Colin Farrell), even though he's got a beautiful wife (Kate Beckinsale) who he loves, the mind-trip sounds like the perfect vacation from his frustrating life - real memories of life as a super-spy might be just what he needs. But when the procedure goes horribly wrong, Quaid becomes a hunted man. Finding himself on the run from the police – controlled by Chancellor Cohaagen (Bryan Cranston), the leader of the free world – Quaid teams up with a rebel fighter (Jessica Biel) to find the head of the underground resistance (Bill Nighy) and stop Cohaagen. The line between fantasy and reality gets blurred and the fate of his world hangs in the balance as Quaid discovers his true identity, his true love, and his true fate.
This fucking movie will be better then the original.
No Mars = fail.
http://geektyrant.com/news/2012/1/21...n-first-t.htmlUnderworld: Awakening has been doing well at the box office this weekend. Director Len Wiseman was doing press for that film, and gave an update on his Total Recall remake in an interview with Collider (via CBM). Wiseman talked about his editing process for the remake, and revealed that he is currently working on the director's cut - which is about two hours long. He also talked about when fans will finally see a trailer for the film, and why they will be excited.
Below is an excerpt from the interview:
Do you know when we’ll see the first trailer for Total Recall?
I’ve seen it, and it’s great. I believe it will hit in March. I could be wrong, but I think March.
Where are you at now in the editing process?
I am two days away from turning in my director’s cut. I’m actually just doing some finishing touches on it. So, I’m done with that, and the studio takes a look at it fairly soon. So far, it’s actually been a very fun process. There’s a lot of excitement around it, and I’m very happy with it.
How long is your cut at this point?
I think we’re close to two hours, but it’s not all completely assembled. We still have a lot of the visual effects shots that we’re putting in, last minute. I’ll be here for about 20 hours today, and another 20 hours tomorrow.
Is there anything that you’re most excited for fans to see?
I would say how much it really plays with fantasy versus reality, in a way that I wanted to dive into a little bit more. It’s a thing I’ve always been fascinated about with Philip K. Dick’s story and the concept itself. It really has to operate on two playing fields, at any given time. It’s either the fantasy or reality. That’s the thing that I think is the most exciting. It’s got a load of really funaction sequences and visuals, and a whole new world to experience as well, that is really fun, but what makes that all super-engaging is this constant mystery of what world we’re existing in, whether it’s his fantasy or reality.

Youtube's keep getting nuked.. Blonde Harold..
I know it's a teaser, but damn don't tell me those are the best action sequences they got to show us...
Is this a new trend in advertising?
Yo dawg, I herd you like trailers, etc.
Kate Beckinsale looks hot as usual. Might be my biggest draw to watch this :<
this fuckin teaser shit is the worst thing to happen since games with DLC endings
Fail. =/
EDIT: I feel like they're trying to cram Total Recall into a Minority Report style world.
Just about it...
I found it really odd that he suddenly "knew kung fu" so to speak. It really did break from the original movie where Arnold was a total loser who just got help from his "past self" in order to get to mars. He didn't like go all ape-shit 3 seconds after they strapped him to the chair.
Movie will be entertaining if not simply because its got action and a hot looking Beckinsale. Yet, I am not holding out hope for "good" or even, "true the original".
I agree, but I certainly don't want to see the same EXACT movie with Colin Farell instead of Arnold. The action looks solid and the girls are hot, it's probably worth a view or two. What really gives me hope is that Bryan Cranston is playing a villain and I'm really looking forward to that. I'm hoping the movie really surprises me, quality-wise.
