    The Fantastic Four (Reboot, 2012)

Hollywood/AF Newswire: 4/01/2011 12:01 EST: Paul Verhoeven (Basic Instinct, Total Recall, Starship Troopers) returns stateside to develop and direct The Fantastic Four for 20th Century Fox. The film is targeted for a Christmas 2012 release with filming expected to begin this December. This project will not follow the events of the original two productions directed by Tim Story. The last two films were critically panned yet were highly profitable for the studio. The is Verhoeven's first attempt at a comeback to the Science Fiction genre since directing fan favorites Robocop, Total Recall, and Starship Troopers...and then moving back home to Dutch language films.

Paul Verhoeven has commented on his blog regarding the project this evening stating: ""My scriptwriter and I always felt that people under that kind of pressure of meeting fans expectations are really living an existential life because every decision is extremely important," Verhoeven says. "The worst and the best come out when taking on a project so dear to the fans like The Fantastic Four. I can only promise them that I will bring the same exciting style and action that I bring to all my films in the genre."

The summary below was provided by Fox Studios and is subject to change:

A handful of heroes become superheroes under unlikely circumstances in this action drama adapted from the long-running Marvel comic-book series. Four astronauts are on a mission aboard a new experimental spacecraft when they are unexpectedly exposed to a massive dose of gamma rays. The accident causes strange and unexpected transformations in all four. Reed Richards, top scientist and leader of the mission, can now stretch his body like elastic and is dubbed Mr. Fantastic. His partner and sweetheart, Sue Storm, develops the ability to become invisible at will, and becomes known as The Invisible Girl. Her younger brother, Johnny Storm, is renamed The Human Torch for his new talent of being able to summon up fire from his body when he chooses. And Ben Grimm, pilot for the journey, mutates into a monstrous creature with superhuman strength and muscles like stone, known as The Thing. Together, the travelers become known as the Fantastic Four, and they set out to use their unusual skills to fight crime, quickly gaining a nemesis in another altered hero who uses his talents for evil, Doctor Doom.
    Casting is currently underway.

The good news is, it can't be any worse than the first one.

Despite the movies themselves, Chris Evans was the real life face of The Human Torch for me. And despite my boundless love for Jessica Alba, she was horrible and Sue Storm was presented horribly.

Here's hoping the casting is much better, among other things.

I would love an anti-hero movie about dr. doom's origin and take over of latveria or a doombot/kristoff coup .... being realistic, i'd like to see doom's sorcery & science come into play instead of that poor scaled-down ultimates version they used in the first one.

I was shocked when the silver surfer sequel was announced (the first one was awful). The sequel was better, but not good other than the mesmerizing effect that a blonde Alba had. A reboot makes about as much sense as the Hulk reboot, some comics just can't be done well as live-action no matter how much cgi you throw at them.

STOP FUCKING REBOOTING MOVIES. MICHAEL CHIKLIS AND CHRIS EVANS WERE FUCKING PERFECT. ENOUGH.

edit: Just like I liked Jennifer Connely as Betty in Hulk more than Liv Tyler.

Not just me that hated seeing liv tyler in the second movie then, ey kro. might just have been the whole angelina jolie massive lip thing she had going on though, makes women REALLY unattractive, where as jen connely had it down perfectly.
Then again i didnt have a problem with the first movie as a whole, plot with his dad probably shouldve been left to a sequel, but meh

Don't get me wrong, I love Liv Tyler in most other movies. Her casting in the Hulk was incredibly out of place.

And about time you found your way here to BG, Peace.

lol, been coming to bg for years, just been lurking like a boss. Figured i may as well get in on the trolling

Anyone else think they may start changing the actor for every movie the hulks in, to make it seem like it was their plan all along, and not just incompetance
