I enjoyed the movie but I had a hard time with the "science" behind it. If i understood it correctly, this technology was supposed to be possible because the human brain retains their last 8 mins before dying. So the environment he was supposed to be in represented just what the guy, Sean Fentress, knew and experienced in his last 8 mins. But Jake does so much that should be outside of this guy's knowledge and experience. Even if the environment represented the collective memory of all the passengers on the train, it still does not make sense. How would they be able to construct an environment in the train station which is outside of their experience?
I know they got around this by explaining that this new world is more than just a figment of the imagination. But why don't the scientists in the movie think it is strange? Why would they think it is possible for someone to hack into the memory of a random passenger and be able to figure out the bomber if that random passenger had nothing to do with the bomb in the first place? Maybe it made sense ultimately to the audience but it should not have made sense to the scientists.
