I might purchase one soon. Kind of surprised how much I've enjoyed driving recently, so I might get a more fun machine. Maybe a Subaru WRX STi or Lancer Evo or something. Not sure though. Just bought a car, so I'm hesitant about buying another one so soon.

When I flipped that Pontiac Vibe a couple years ago I did it on cars.com. Worked ok.

The X MRs are only twin clutch (automatic-style).

I'm looking to get a manual.

I just bought a 2010 Nissan Maxima 3.5 SV, though my fiance has fallen in love with it and tossed her car by the wayside. So i'm thinking about splurging and buying a 300c but I'm going back to school again soon so i might hold off.

    Update:

Looks like most dealers are sticking to Msrp since this is a fast selling vehicle. The one guy I talked to face to face and via phone seemed like he was willing to go a little under Msrp. He also wanted me to fill out a credit application online (can be found at amatoauto.com)

He said he was getting a black limited trim model with the premium package in a week or so. I didn't make him an offer yet, though I told him to contact me when it came in.

Should I fill out the credit app before hand or wait until I negotiate a price? I know I'm only going to negotiate on base price and not in terms of monthly payments. I may or may not trade in my current vehicle. It depends on what I get offered for it but its one of the things asked on the app.

    Thoughts?

Did you get a car loan approved at your bank?

Did you go to the dealer in person?

Did you do fucking ANYTHING I told you to do yet?

Stop asking for advice, you dont follow it and you've poisoned the well at multiple dealers now with your emails and phone calls without financing in place. You should write a goddamn book on how -not- to buy a car. Jesus Christ.

I still plan on going to the bank for a pre-approved loan when I take out money for a down payment. I haven't had a chance yet. I was busy Saturday morning and I worked
today, so couldnt make it to the bank. Filling out an online credit app through Hyundai does not mean I have to take their financing. I have talked to 1 dealer in person. The problem with the advice given (no offense) is that there really isn't much incentive for the dealer to sell under MSRP since the model is selling fast. Thats pretty much the response I've gotten from everyone.

Sounds like that response is making you think about paying MSRP then.

I mean, the car dealer said it, I'm sure he knows what he's talking about.

No one is going to give you a good price unless they know they are moments away from CLOSING a sale.

They arent closing shit with you over email, the phone, or in person without a loan in place.

Stop fucking negotiating until you are ready to close. All you are doing is hurting yourself, attempting to bargain from a position of weakness. They've even got you ready to believe that there is no deal to be had, and they know you want that car so bad that even when you're ready to close you will believe them when they say that it's MSRP only.

Get your loan approved, look online at a new dealer 50 miles away that you havent poisoned yet that has the car you want on the lot, go in, show you are ready to close, and get your deal.

Forget all the dealers you've already poisoned. There are no deals there for you.

100%. Dealer doesn't give a shit about you, he's in it for his commission. If you're just talking, he doesn't want to waste time on you. When you show up with the cash ready to buy, he'll talk to you seriously. Nothing gets a guy on commission ready to talk like seeing a payday right in front of him.

Why are you in such a hurry to buy this car? You are making a huge mistake, this is one of the worst things you could do.

They keep telling you, Oh these are hard to get we don't have any, we might have ONE in a week or 2, but only for full price.

You are getting shat on by car dealers. Stop it, slow down, and be patient or you will lose and give them one hell of a payday. You are the buyer that dealers pray walk in, they have you almost completely by the balls here.

Take the advice given to you here, travel to another dealer when ready, get shit in order first or you will lose out on a couple grand.

I still have my shit together. Its not like Im going to give in to paying MSRP. If I feel like Im getting shat on, I'll walk out. Have no problem with doing so.

No offense, but this is not a dude with his shit together.

EDIT: Fun fact as well: the dealership gets paid extra if you take their financing.

And taking their financing is ok as long as it's A) better than what you could get from a bank, and B) not being used as a way for the dealer to do a bunch of hand-waving in order to inflate the price of the car.

Always negotiate on the car's sale price, never negotiate monthly payments.

It's usually a better idea to negotiate on the out-the-door price. That way, they can't give you an extra $500 off of the car, only to add on $750 "marketing fees" later.

A general rule I go by is if my out-the-door price is at or below MSRP, then it's a pretty good deal. That's in California with a ~9% sales tax, so it means the sale price of the car is slightly below invoice, which, for the cars I've looked at, is around 10-11% lower than MSRP. Strangely enough, if Edmunds is right, there's only a ~$600 difference between invoice and MSRP on the 2011 Elantra.

If you're paying attention to the process, they can't do that either.

Out of door price is good for people who don't have the concentration to follow the shell game, I guess.
