ummmm no it doesn't at all, did you quote the right post? Try to explain that because those companies that create blank dvd's, cd's, etc. specifically supply Sony knowing it's intent. If the company didn't want their dvds used that way they wouldn't be supplying them. (it's not like sony walks into a walmart wtf).
I would also like to point out too that sony makes blank CD's/DvDs/etc. to begin with lol.
um is psn down. or my shits just fucked up?
Apparently still down cause of the tards.
"herp derp lets take down a free service"
ed: try restart the ps3 or something, logged me in fine.
Also we need a tax on blank paper to support the authors artists that are inevitably being ripped off.
And by artists I mean the business suits that own the rights to the creative works, not the actual creators of the creative works.
Nintendo modified the Wii firmware EULA at 4.3 or 4.4 I think to state that they can now force an update on you without having to notify you. That's one reason I'm still running 4.2. So far they haven't exercised that ability. Microsoft got sued in Europe for doing so back with the original Xbox for destroying someone's Linux access by forcing an update without even giving the option to refuse it.
Works until you buy a new game which requires fixes/features only available in newer firmwares.
Which, as I said, works until your new game depends upon a firmware feature that does not exist or is bugged / works differently in your current firmware.
Yes, but at least that way you don't have an update auto-install that breaks your current functionality. It blocks the situation that happened to that guy on the PS3 with GT5. I'd rather a game crash than install a system update without giving me an option to refuse the install.
However, Nintendo's clause says they can do the update while the system is in standby, which may not be blocked by that program. If you use WiiConnect24, you are leaving yourself open to that.
A crashing game can be fixed by someone creating a custom firmware patch that adds the required features without disabling the old ones. You just may not get the game while it is new. At this point I don't have to have a new game right away, my backlog is over 1000 games.
Maybe you should stop ripping off games.
Seriously, outside of the Ps3 guys who actually made use of Linux, the 1% of owners of the PS3, everyone else is just making noise about stealing games. But hey, lets all jump on the bandwagon; this isn't even a discussion about the Ps3 anymore but rather a discussion of pirating games, which whether you agree or not is wrong and you need to deal with it.
Stealing games is wrong. Creating tools to enable piracy is questionable. Geo did neither of these things, no matter how hard you ride Sony's dick, or how badly you want to see them crush him in court. No one is under any obligation to not reverse engineer a product they bought. Sony's security keys, which Geo DID NOT DISTRIBUTE are also not what is considered a born secret. Geo restored the Linux capabilities to the PS3, FOR WHICH THERE IS A DEMONSTRABLE LEGITIMATE USE. Others broke down his work to derive those keys and distribute them for illegal purposes. You can hammer their dicks all you want, and I won't disagree with you in the slightest, but chief, in regards to the Linux thing, you're quite simply wrong and don't know what the fuck.
You're right, because such a brilliant person as Hotz could not reasonably foresee that releasing his own version of that code could be reverse engineered itself thereby becoming the initial source of the piracy. That's bullshit and that argument alone wont hold any water in front of any well informed judge by itself. It's also naive considering how often he does this. What it is going to come down to is the totality of the circumstances including whether or not it can be proven he received funds or donations from those who were selling the USB drives to mod the PS3.
Doesn't matter if he foresaw it or not, he still has the right to do his tinkering and release the results.
Just because a gun can be used to kill people does not make the gun manufacturer responsible for how people use their products.
Also you should stop bringing up the strawman of the unsubstantiated allegation that he was working for the people selling USB drives when he released his results.
