We're looking at Tuesday for it to be back up.

A source with close connections to Sony Computer Entertainment Europe reports that the attack to the PlayStation Network may be a bit deeper than originally reported by Sony. According to the source, who wishes to remain anonymous, the PSN sustained a LOIC attack (which created a denial-of-service attack) that damaged the server. There was also a concentrated attack on the PlayStation servers holding account information. In addition, “Admin Dev accounts were breached.”

As a result, “Sony then shut down the PSN and [is] currently in the process of restoring backups to new servers with new admin dev accounts.” The SCEE source said Japanese servers may be restored tomorrow while the U.S. and E.U. servers will likely be operational the following day.

While this information is only corroborated via a series of Facebook messages, it is certainly not a stretch. Sony Computer Entertainment America recently confirmed that it pulled down the PSN because of an “external intrusion.” This essentially means that hackers were to blame. Sony is officially conducting a thorough investigation. The PSN and Qriocity services were pulled offline by Sony on Wednesday, April 20.

There was plenty of speculation late this week that the Anonymous hackers group was to blame for the PSN downtime. The group previously targeted Sony in retaliation to the legal action against another hacker. Anonymous has since denied involvement in the current PSN downtime.

Again, this information is from a source who claims to have a very close connection with someone at SCEE. We take these reports for what they are at this time, but it is certainly a possibility. If you have information to share, please do so.

"Everyone deserves the right to know what’s been going on," the source wrote in an email.

God damn you Anon for starting this. Way to defend gamers and stick it to Sony by screwing over a free service that specifically caters to gamers. I've been sick for a few days and unable to pass the time with CoD or DLC for games I've already beaten. They need to make up for this by fucking with the people who continue to screw gamers over even though Anon has called it off.

Anon has done nothing with this and they even stated that, they started nothing. The option was always there for fags to be fags. This just goes back to what I'm saying that whoever is responsible could be potentially trying to get anon in trouble because retarded people need to blame someone. And if you get enough retarded people being retarded, casualties happen even if in reputation alone or worse people actually taking actions against anon and anon getting in trouble for something they are not responsible for. Yay for ignorance and media

Well I'm glad we're all in agreement that DDOS is a legitimate form of protest.

I don't think I've ever stated that. Nor do I agree that most of anonymous tactics are a legitimate form of protest. The only time "legitimate protest" occurred was when they used to do things with Scientology. Simply put, the world isn't fair to those without money.

From page 8 of their letter to Sony:

"Anonymous is not attacking the PSN at this time. Sony's official position is that the PSN is undergoing maintenance. We realize that targeting the PSN is not a good idea. We have therefore temporarily suspended our action, until a method is found that will not severely impact Sony customers."

To suspend something you have to start doing it in the first place. Where have you read that they have nothing to do with this?

    http://zoknowsgaming.com/2011/04/24/...down-then-who/

Article by someone else but video was by anonymous released on the 23rd

(probably also on here but I didn't check http://www.facebook.com/TheAnonPress)

They started doing it originally because of the whole lawsuit thing with Sony wanting to track down everyone that accessed information (not if they actually hacked iirc) with the whole Hotz case. And they stopped before the case came to a verdict. I believe it was stated that their intention was to bring awareness to the consumers of how unreasonable Sony's demands were.

This is probably a Chinese hack. Not the government per say, but their hacker community has the strength to do something like this. It looks a lot like what they did to the FFXI servers a few years ago.

Now that the cat's out of the bag, gonna be interesting to see how XBL will handle this when MS eventually pisses people off again somehow.

    Fan-fucking-tastic.

Brian Crecente — Sony Doesn't Know Yet If Your Credit Card Number Was StolenSony has not yet determined if the personal information or credit card numbers of users on the still-offline Playstation Network have been stolen, according to a Sony spokesman.

Sony Computer Entertainment is conducting "thorough investigation" into the outage, Satoshi Fukuoka, a spokesman for Sony Computer Entertainment in Tokyo, told PC World.

Sony Computer Entertainment of America spokesman Patrick Seybold reiterated Fukuoka's statement, confirming that Sony is still looking into whether credit card or other personal information were taken during the "external intrusion."

Both declined to provide more information about the intrusion that led the company to take the global Playstation Network down last week. The network remains down as of Monday morning.

In an update this morning, Seybold said there is no update or timeframe for getting the network back up yet.

"As we previously noted, this is a time intensive process and we're working to get them back online quickly," he wrote. "We'll keep you updated with information as it becomes available. We once again thank you for your patience."

Seybold said over the weekend that officials were working around the clock to rebuild the network.

Raige, I'm unsure of whether or not you have it set up this way or if the information is retained. My CC info was not saved onto PSN and I had to reenter when I wanted to buy things. Found this out when my account got hacked.

Mine was saved. I set it up to retain the card number rather than having to use the wallet system. Fucking great. Last time I do that though.

Glad someone is looking at this angle rather then blaming Anon. Especially when Anon stated there not involved.

Because it's that much of a stretch to assume an anonymous group of hackers aren't also opportunist? All I know is I'm gonna have to get a new card, yay.
