One good thing that came out of this: I finally beat MGS4, after getting through Act 1 when it came out and then being like, "Ehhhhhhh."

So true. Woke up this morning and had a text from BoA that someone was using my card to book travel and lodging in London.

I can't say with 100% certainty that this is b/c of the PSN attack. However, all my on-line purchases in the past couple months have been through Paypal and that goes directly from my account not my debit card. Only other use of my debit card has been pay at the pump charges for gas, so I don't think my info was lifted from those.

I received a call from my bank today asking if I had tried to us an older card which was expired by accident yesterday. I told them no, then I remembered the old CC before it expired was used on my PSN account by me.

My guess is some dumb ass tried to make bank with an expired card (ended in Feb 11), good thing they lock out automatically.

Lady on the phone said the card was trying to make a $7.00 purchase for Cigarettes at a gas station in California. Hopefully the gas station has the little bitch on video.

edit: Called my family attorney just in case to notify him. From my understanding the bank said they would take care of it from here on out with the proper authorities.

Yeah, I'm glad I did go and change my card then. Hate to deal with shit after the fact like that. Always ends up being more work if they do something terrible.

    Edit: Another update from Engadget

As the PlayStation Network / Qriocity outage stretches into its second week, over on the PlayStation Blog rep Patrick Seybold has just posted an updated Q&A based on the inquiries of concerned users. Beyond the security of our personal information, the most important question is when service might be restored and he reiterates Sony expects to have "some services" up and running within a week from yesterday. When it comes to the most important personal information like credit card numbers, there are assurances that the credit card database was encrypted and there is no evidence anything was taken, but that's a possibility that still cannot be ruled out completely. To keep things secure, Gamasutra reports game developers are getting new SDKs with updated security features as well. When the service comes back up, expect a mandatory system update that requires a new password before getting back to your Mortal Kombat or Portal 2-related plans.

I think my Card got hacked. Listening to my transactions I'm seeing a lot of 20 dollar purchases on the 18. I am positive that I didn't make any that day as I was in the hospital.

Was entirely nonplussed about the fiasco since Anonymous would shoot itself in the foot if it did try to use PSN users personal info ( if they're still taking the wrap for all of this ), but decided to change all my pw's and ordered a new CC just in case. Time to get my 4th X-Box and hope this one doesn't brick / MS fucks me.

Couple questions... Why would a person's first try on a CC be at a gas station for $7 on cigarettes? If he got your CC number from PSN, that means he didn't have a physical card, just the number/exp date. That means he would have had to go in and literally speak out the numbers from a piece of paper (or memory) to the gas station clerk. While it may be possible that machines might be able to just punch in numbers for a CC, I highly doubt it isn't against any place's protocol to actually allow such a thing to happen, especially without the clerk physically seeing the card.

Couldn't this attempt have been an isolated incident and not related to PSN at all? Like... do you still have that card, or did you just throw it away.

I checked my statements today and there's nothing fishy so far. (obviously that doesn't mean the same for everyone.)

A couple of years ago my debit / checkcard got swiped on a ATM scam. Apparently with the info they can print your cards details on a magnetic strip on a new card with anyones info on it. When this happened to me some hick used my card at TJ Maxx, Wal-Mart, gas stations and convenient stores for small charges ( $10-$50 ) in Alabama and Georgia.

I had to call precincts in each county the card was used in to file a police report so my pos bank would refund the cash and make its claim through the FDIC.

    How it was explained to me;

#1 Thieves can create fake cards with the proper tools. Most shitty stores don't ask for ID when you swipe your card at the register. As long as they have your information, it can be placed on a typical card.

#2 People that steal card information usually do "test runs" on small purchase items to see if is a viable working card before going out and taking a big plunge anywhere else.

#3 I shredded the card when it expired in Feb. when I got my new card in the mail, (As I do with all my documents at my local bank since my father works there).

#4 This is is too close together date-wise and widespread to deny. So help me god I find any leaked information on this asshole.

edit: Also @ MF Perm tha Fineass, thank god the card was defunct and not working. I really don't wanna deal with that right now.

When I worked at a store I've seen a few fake cards. You can usually tell because the card doesn't feel the same as weird as that sounds. They probably test on small things because I know when we had fake cards being used on big items we were to stall the "customer" until security got there by doing whatever BS we could do that would be time consuming. One of the popular reasons was saying the register crashed and we would just need a sec to reboot it.

The ID thing isn't 100% though, I've seen fake cards with all of the normal information on them.

I cut my expired cards up, so that the even the printed info on the face isn't in usable chunks. And I only toss a few of the fragments in the trash at a time, over the course of a year.

I don't even bother with shredding documents.

I guess I should check my statements. I figured with so many CC info it would be unlikely mine got used. I usually only put cards about to expire into online systems like this just because I don't want to get charged for stuff I don't want. I also don't want to memorize another card number :/
