I came here expecting news on the Customer Appreciation Program going live, and I get 2 pages of trolling. STOP THIS IMMEDIATELY
(seriously go to the console wars thread if you want to keep bitching)
You're missing the point. Certain newer games still require the physical disc to be in the system and being read in order to play as an antipiracy countermeasure. Without the disc in there it wont play off the HD meaning the disc is still being used. Meaning it cant be played right off the HD.
P.S you can do whatever you want with your consoles but more and more devs are requiring you to log onto the network first before the game to be used which you can't do when you're console is hacked because you have to update the firmware.
Kinda on topic, I just got my new ps3 from Sony after the firmware bricked my shit, is LA Noire worth the price tag rather than a rental?
I don't know of any games that require you to log into the network to use them (as they shouldn't because a large number of PS3s aren't connected to a network), but most of the new ones require the newer firmware, which isn't hackable.
Activision has said they planned to use that system of logging into network awhile back, has that not happened yet? I know a few other devs were planning it. LA Noire rental or buy? Hmmm.
Is the store back yet? I want my free shit.
That is not at all what he said. He said certain games require the disk to be in the drive, which is completely false. No such game exists. Some newer games are encrypted for 3.6, and thus cannot be played at this time (with or without the disk) on 3.41/3.55, but that is not what he said, and those games do not require a disk, they require the encryption keys (and some of them can even be played now with a patch that was signed for 3.5).
This is pretty much correct. With games that require a disk in the drive to play, it can be any BR disk. A lot of games will run strait off the HD with no disk in at all. I ran LBP2 off the HD with no disk (until my 4 year old tried to update it and ruined it).
With LA Noire, it was released for exclusive use with 3.6+ use, like Portal 2. However, Rockstar rolled it back via a patch to play on 3.55 when people were having issues with the 3.6 firmware.
Go to sleep Tyche we don't care what you think![]()

What's the best way to land a programmer's job at Microsoft? Well, there's the standard method of going to school for computer science, succeeding admirably, creating programs of your own and then applying and hoping you get the nod.
Then there's the slightly less orthodox method employed occasionally by young and ambitious hackers.
In this case, a 14-year-old Irish hacker managed to break into the online servers for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 last month and start a phishing scam that tried to get other players to divulge personal information.
The hack came right in the middle of the crippling hack attack that took down the entire Playstation Network, and it scared Microsoft enough to issue worldwide alter for the scam.
So now that the perpetrator has been outed as a 14-year-old geek living with his parents, what's Microsoft's response?
[Managing Director of Microsoft Ireland Paul] Rellis revealed that Microsoft planned to work with the Dublin teenager to develop his talent for legitimate purposes.
So let that be a lesson, hackers. If you start young enough and hack with enough skill, you can trade "being sued in court" for "getting a sweet job."
Isn't that common knowledge that's what happens to a lot of hackers?
