Basically, yes. It took financial ruin (in this game, not the entire company) for SE to pull its collective head out of its ass in regards to how they handle working on a MMO. They're making changes now, but some see it as too little, too late. They're the best company to do it, though, as unlike other companies, they are in direct control of the flow of money that they can pump into the game. There are no "pesky investors" to get in the way.
I would rather there be no repairs needed at all but it's much less of a hassle now. The only time it makes me mad is when I'm done with an item and want to sell it. Besides the jewelry that I haven't upgraded I can usually go 10 levels with a weapon before it needs repaired.
What really irks me about the repair system is when you need a Goldsmith to repair your item but the mat to repair is made by an armorer...
^ Just more roadblocks designed to slow the pace of the game down for everyone. We can't have convenience; that leads to people getting bored and maxing out too early. Clearly the solution was needless bottlenecks with a healthy dose of "TO PROMOTE COOPERATION BETWEEN PLAYERS AND THE COMMUNITY!" propaganda spouted here and there.
Apparently, if you say something enough, it eventually becomes true. Ask the purists!
Just quoting this for immense truth. It sometimes feels like I'm the only person who isn't botting his way through crafting, and it's a real big turn-off. It's very, very sad that SE has made the same kind of mistake as they did with XI, in letting bots/third party programs become so prolific that if they were to ban the cheaters, they'd kill their own game. Whereas if they'd taken some strong action early on and make an announcement about it ("we banned these 1000 people for craft botting. Don't do it if you wanna play") then things would probably be much, much better.
hmm
They did a big banning campaign during FF11, but lets be honest it was a little late when it did happen, knowing how popular FF14 would be, you would think they would have had this all drawn and with measures to-do, but yet I don't see it?
They are trying so hard to fix it, and i believe they can do it, but by the time its done the economy will be in shambles...
</3
I think they did a large mass ban near the beginning of the game's life due to the large amount of fish bots people used to fish up rusty items. Long time ago, so don't remember overly clearly.
Not sure if there was a ban or if it was just a cockblock. However I do remember when they started to farm things like Archer Rings, Kotes, etc. they weren't too bad, but as SE slowly replaced those with R/EX counterparts and they were going to Sky they started to become aggressive and MPK anyone in their way.
on some level I enjoyed having rmt in ffxi, whether it be for the added humor or drama.
and shoggoth, just run...run away from this game and try to forget it ever happened. It will absolutely not get better with any patch, or ps3 release, unless they plan to start from scratch.
