Trump will never happen and is a waste of time even thinking or talking about it.

Its just amazing to me the number of people the GOP can alienate yet still remain in existence. Dems can't back down on some of these things, especially PP, unless they want to totally fuck over their base (yet again), the GOP is playing a dangerous game that makes little political sense outside of pleasing the Tea Party, which in their infinite wisdom appears to be standing on the sidelines screaming "Do it!"

At this point I hope it does happen, because if it doesn't it probably means the Dems got ass-fucked yet again & I really believe the GOP will come out losers with a shutdown.

Trump is a birther and is only still relevant to society because of the Apprentice. He's a shining example of lucky success, not business smarts.

Maddow went over the blame game last night and I agree with her. Reps won't get blamed because the public doesn't know which person to single out. Back when this happened in 95, Newt Gingritch was EVERYWHERE. His name was about as popular as Clinton's at the time and the shutdown happened when he became relevant.

Not many people know that John Boehner is the House Majority Leader but everyone knows Obama is the President.

Actually Boehner is pretty well-known at this point because he's been in the media spotlight a LOT since before the election. I will agree that he's not nearly as known as Gingrich was back then, and that's only because he's sharing the spotlight with all the Teadiots.

So last year when the Democrats had control of all three parts of the government they needed to pass a budget (Pres, House, Senate) and they didn't pass a budget at all, its no biggie. But the Repubs take the house, and in 4 months pass a budget that the president and senate have said they will veto, and it's still the republican majority of the houses fault?

Y'all are trolling a bit too hard.

Do you have any idea what they are trying to cut? The fact that they made this in 4 months is irrelevant.

Go watch last night's The Last Word. Good stuff.

Sorry if this is a stupid question, but what are "policy riders"? I keep seeing that term used on SciAm but I don't understand it.

It's basically a policy decision attached to a funding bill.

Edit: This article gives some good examples of policy riders in the past- http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0411/52751.html

It is their fault because they insist on including hyper-partisan bullshit in the budget, like this anti-abortion anti-women's health amendment. Who's trolling who again?

I feel bad for the troops familes that wont get paid. They say they support the troops, and they want to fix the economy, so shutting down the government makes sense?

Recent CNN headline makes it look like Boehner could be bitching out:

"House Speaker Boehner says most budget issues resolved, but GOP is 'damn serious' about cutting spending."

It's already started. The people in the militaries LES, Leave and Earning Statement, was posted today and it already reflects half their mid-month pay. Needless to say I hope military and federal employees have some savings to fall back on for now.

It's funny that you mention that since this just hit the wire:

    http://images2.dailykos.com/i/user/6...rtiontweet.jpg
Background: The stopgap budget resolution that was passed yesterday included all sorts of partisan garbage, from the above-mentioned anti-abortion thing to stripping the EPA of regulatory powers. And then they renamed it "the troop funding bill" and sent it to the Senate so that it could be voted on quickly in the event that an agreement wasn't reached on the six-month budget. And all of 'em started btiching OH YOU HATE THE TROOPS WHY ARE YOU NOT FUNDING THE TROOPS?!

Of course, several times the Dems brought a "clean" stopgap budget res to the floor, and each time it was stuffed into the drawer.

What shows they aren't serious is there's this impass over what, like 60 billion dollars? I bet that's a drop in the bucket % wise.

Yo dawg, I heard you like bi-partisan governments. So we put two dudes in a room together and had them both jerk off on anti-depressants and nobody got a moneyshot.

You wouldn't know that though because you've demonstrably never picked up a book nor educated yourself on the matter. Let me guess, overweight housewife?

I just want to know, what is it going to take for americans to stop posting complaints on the internets and start marching on washington to stop the kids fighting in the sandbox. This is getting so ridiculous, but the GOP and even the dems know they can act the way they do because shit americans will complain, then do nothing about it.

Actually the impasse has nothing to do with how much money is being cut - it's about whether they get their anti-abortion, anti-women's health and anti-environment riders.
