Every American should support a politician that runs on reforming: campaign finance, lobbying, tort, drug war, and out of whack subsidies like ethanol...at the very least. Should probably throw term limits and/or increasing terms of congress (they're in a freaking perpetual cycle of campaigning, which means getting money...could work itself out with campaign finance reform though).

Campaign reform has occurred before, but people found ways around restrictions. Term limits and increasing term length comes at governance costs. For example, you would expect politician-energy decline and heightened risk-taking behavior (And you thought it couldn't get any worse?) by implementing those policies. The most we'll probably get out of it is greater incentives to conduct long-term benefits. At the same time, limiting the number of terms will counteract this benefit.

So I'm afraid you won't be seeing me at the polls until someone who actually gives a fuck runs.
Even if someone has your interests at heart, what are the odds they actually get to Washington and not become corrupted by the powers that be? Lots of people would love to do something but the majority of the system is corrupt and one person trying to make a change drowns in the sea of corporate lapdogs.

Lots of pols give a fuck but the system has them hamstrung and there is very little they can do about it. Shit has become so partisan and the public so bitterly divided that really the only thing that seems to unite us is a national tragedy and even that comes off as halfass.

Really, Im starting to come to the conclusion that the only way we'll be rallied out to the streets and real reform will happen is if shit gets really bad. Like worse than '08 bad.

After the citizens united ruling, do you think it's possible to pass any meaningful campaign finance reform?

And even if it were possible, they could always just fund them through dummy corporations (like the ones they use to evade taxes) or dead people. By the time anyone cries foul, their horse is elected anyway and they can settle out of court for nothing if they have to. Regardless, Citizens United let the world know that you can buy a president (or any congress seat really), which is pretty much capitalism in action in the one place it will do the most damage. The government will always be full of rich people supported by other rich people unfortunately, and the vast majority of them will therefore vote in their interest.

Where would I go to look at the details of the budget plan? I'm assuming it's posted up online somewhere?
