Generally I figure the best thing to do is shop around and get the cheapest you can find, but this is just to penny pinch. In the end you might find great deals. If you're not worried about saving gil, though, then by all means go hog wild!
I know, but I am a new account and 20k ISP isn't as easy to come by when people don't exp in aht urghan anymore.
If you ever dnc at all, waltz timer is the most important thing you can do with it. Otherwise pet damage reduction for bst, or maybe a WS hat for some jobs still?
You should calculate the most you can pay / want to pay to complete your relic, then if you find currency under/at that price buy it up.
When I did my G.Axe (I wasn't even decided which I wanted to do yet), I found 60 - 100 bynes for a reasonable price and never looked back. At that point I knew I was doing a final or 64 stage byne relic and decided G.Axe was the way to go. Do I regret it now? Who doesn't since emps are better in most if not all cases. I would say I bought all my currency from start to finish in about 2 weeks.
If you do not have enough gil to finish it now, calculate your income and how long you want to take to finish to figure out how high of a price you can afford.
I'd say the currency in bazaar isn't enough in 2 months to get all your coins. It wasn't for me back in 2008 and Dyna was actually done back then. Took me almost 3 months to get all the currency back then, granded I still had to do some farming to get some gil during those 3 months, so I couldn't camp Rolan all the time, but was there alot. I should add I left the jacked up currency where it was and only bought "normal priced" currency from bazaar or linkshells. If you buy the jacked up currency too, yeah can finish in 2 months, maybe even in today's currency market.
edit: beaten by miles lol and by people who did manage it faster, fuck my server in 2008 then, too many people making relics XD
At leatst that won't happen now, until that fix that never got a date lol.
This is what I have been doing so far, but it seems the gil difference isn't that large in the end. I would end up paying ~12% more if I just bought everything I see compared to setting an arbitrary price limit.
That is interesting and what I was looking for, only 2 weeks to buy all your currency so there should be no supply problem if you're just buying it all out of bazaar. I currently don't have enough to finish but income should be high enough to finish in a month and a half assuming prices don't skyrocket.
Do you suspect currency prices are going to drop? Or are you saying the required currency for relic is possibly going to go down o_O?
edit: @appie: thanks for the info, seems it varies per server then. I will probably just buy everything as fast as possible no matter the price then so I am not waiting an extra month for currency to show up in bazaar.
The 2 weeks was luck when I caught someone quitting and me finding 60 - 100 bynes in 1 purchase. I should also add that I was shout botting all night every 10 minutes for currency and waking up (if i heard it) if someone sent me a tell.
I'd say both chances apply to the subject. Prices can go down once its all figured out (or it might be), on how to proc for great drops. Or since the drop rate has been adjusted they could adjust the number required.
They said, and I am paraphrasing here, "We are going to look into modifying the time and cost investment it takes to get relics/mythics vs emp's".
So basically adjust it so relics won't take 10x as much work/time to be not as good. Could that mean a currency reduction? I think so but the question is how much. I would at the very least hold onto your currency for the final 2 stages and see what changes happen as you can always turn it in right after said update because nothing is worse then finishing it then finding out you could have saved 80 silver pieces waiting 24 hours.
Realize that if this happens, the price of currency skyrockets. People are willing to spend ~100-180m on relics and that likely won't change. Less currency needed to obtain a relic means more demand.
In my opinion, it's a risk on both ends. If dynamis gets figured out and people start churning out massive amounts of currency then the market obviously crashes for currency. If the amount of currency required decreases the more rich people will just buy up all of the currency and do more relics since they don't require as much currency, effectively driving up the price.
Pet PDT and WS damage in some cases, I think.
Is there a way to send commands to another instance of FFXI on the same machine, or did I just imagine people talking about it? If it's real, how do I do it?
MultiSend I believe can send commands to different instances of ffxi or even different machines (on the same network).
Also you could use the ChatMon plugin to base commands off of tells or party chat.

edit: it might be dual send your looking for, not multisend.
edit again: multisend works on 1 pc as well, it seems this one is more update to date then dual send.
If you arrange to farm on Light/Darkday, a NIN and a WHM/BLM or WHM/SCH can cover a fair amount of the triggers when you don't end up with lightning or fire. Having all triggers is optimal of course, but sometimes it's easier to do some quick farming during off-hours without having to deal with pick-up headaches.
Good idea but honestly if you use Myoshu/Yurin and have capped subtle blow or close to it then you can EASILY have a mob WS 80% less and can go with a blm/whm and be fine. I did a lot of NM's like that and with /dnc and cure 4 with possible temps if needed you are pretty solid. This does require a decent solo set and gear since if things go bad there isn't much to rely on. Also having all abyssites of merit help.
DNC af1 head and body the only pieces worth bothering to get?
Feet are nice for Jig duration +30 seconds.
Hands give Step Acc +~10 or 15, but Steps already get a +10 Step Accuracy bonus over your normal melee so they aren't really needed. Legs are worthless
