I've done a number of pickup Dyna-Xarc runs in the past few weeks. If you can manage it, go into the zone with a party of friends as to avoid competition for the hat. Most people in pickups want either THF hands or RDM hat, so you'll have a lot of competition and the droprate on these two items is still annoying low (this is purely ancedotal based on my own experience). It's anyone's guess as to how easy/annoying it will be to get a hat after the Dynamis overhaul with the May update.
If you plan on leveling other mages, it'll still be a good idea to head to Abyssea-Konschtat anyways to farm up a Refresh hairpin. While farming the hairpin, you'll also be farming Dark Rings, and these rings can see augments of up to -6% PDT and -6% MDT (among other defensive stats). You can farm lights with friends or join an exp alliance for an hour or so and have them build the lights for you.
In case you're interested, this was my method for solo farming rings/hairpins:
- Kill 8 Tier1 VNMs to cap (or nearly cap) Pearl light. They seem to spawn in the twisty passages south of Conflux 02 and travel north. If no one had been killing them recently, I generally found a number of them near Confluxes 02, 04, and 05.
- After killing 8 VNMs, I just stayed near 02 and killed the saplings with Aeolian Edge, although any easy mobs that give amber lights would work just as well. Also, claim and kill nearby Ephemerals with elemental weaponskills.
- After about 40-60 minutes of killing mobs, bask in the joy of checking gold chest after gold chest that load with temp items or key items.
It took me about 7-10 days of farming (only one 2 hour session per day on days I farmed) to get a Refresh hairpin, and in that time, I got a three pretty good Dark Rings and tons of spells, craft mats, and poorly-augmented items to NPC (some of the ores/ingots still fetch a decent price on the AH). Since you're only leveling mages (unless I read incorrectly), you can bribe melee friends to help by offering them all the NPCables. God knows I made a good chuck of change from NPCables while farming my hairpin and rings.
Cleaving ftw, imo. My current group is working on a bunch of weapons at once in Tahronghi. We started off cleaving, then after a few runs decided to just farm NMs to see how it compared. We almost all agreed that farming NMs left us wanting to just quit, so back to cleaving we went, for our sanity's sake. If we end up needing just a certain KI and capped on all others we'll kill the NM for it, but for my group at least, cleaving is the best option.
Which WoE flux is the easiest to low-man? Slimes perhaps? What would the ideal setup be to minimize people needed?
Slimes. mnk/dnc, whm, brd is what worked best out of the combos I tried. Brd sacs, mnk kills bosses, and you have room for 2 leeches to enter before you start losing chests. Used to use rdm sac but marches speed things up significantly and debuffing boss just slows down counters. (Para can be nice for interrupting spells that get through your hits but whm can do it.) Trio it was about 15-20 mins per run, depending if temps items/mob placement was nice to us.
If you're countering you're not retaliating. I haven't seen any reason to believe counterstance is anything but a static boost to counter rate. Atmas will add counter rate on top of cs, just think of counterstance as +40% counter on top of 10% trait or whatever it gives. Generally as long as your support can keep you alive you'll want /sam for an easier/possible X hit, hasso, meditate, etc. I don't really see why you'd go war/mnk, you lose retaliates and whm shouldn't be having an issue keeping you alive (Inside abyssea, at least.)
So the WotG Nation quests now prevent your medal from degrading past a certain level based on your quest.
Does that apply globally, or *only* on the nations you've done the quest for?
I.E. I'm aligned with Windy in the past, but I'm doing to Bastok quest line. Do my medals degrade or not?
That would be super cool. I can probably easy make those mini fafnir do 0 damage with ochain so unless they have regain sleep is no problem![]()
Edit: Ignore this post
Not a MNK, so I can't give you anything specific, but from what I've read, Counterstance =/= Retaliation. The former will not give you the TP gain of the second. If that's the case, it's probably a separate check (like how DA and OAT). WAR/MNK tanking has been debated. One side says /SAM because survival is not difficult with WHM and /SAM will boost your damage more than /MNK. Counter atmas do stack if that's what you're asking.
RDM and SCH basically have no purpose inside of Abyssea. You *can* use them, but you're just as well off not taking them in most situations since their ability to cover enough trigger spells is rather low (decent for cleaving, but not all that useful for a vast majority of NMs). Kiting/pinning is usually slower than just taking a MNK+WHM (plus whatever jobs you need for triggering to get the desired drops) and meleeing it down.
Take the Tamas. Yes, Rajas is the "correct" ring, but if you don't have jobs to make use of it, you may as well take one you can use. Once you decide you need Rajas, you have 1 free reset where you don't have to wait to get a different ring.
I still use Balrahn's. All the ToaU rings are mediocre compared to other mission rewards. Useful for jobs that would want MAcc, but don't get a lot of options for it (like for DNC's Violent Flourish).
Campaign is pretty much dead, but SE recently hinted at revitalizing it. You'll still need notes for getting around (just do Campaign OPs, better notes/time ratio).
Windurst WotG storyline is worth a look for the Zodiac Ring. The story for that nation is pretty good (slow to get interesting, but the last few CS more than make up for it). Also the Moonshade Earring, which was already mentioned.
Where can I get the following:
Expwatch for current Windower (the one on their site is outdated I believe?)
FFXI Map Dats (Emiko's link is broken and outdated)
Dat swaps? FFXIDATS is dead..any new site for this?
