Random, I know, but I think Glavoid has 50 MDB:
[13:41:07]Byrth uses Cataclysm.
[13:41:07]The Glavoid takes 15267 points of damage.
[13:41:07]The Vermes Carnium takes 22900 points of damage.
[18:52:02]Byrth uses Aeolian Edge.
[18:52:02]The Glavoid takes 21896 points of damage.
[18:52:02]The Vermes Carnium takes 32844 points of damage.
Did you not have any other MAB source at the time? Kind of odd not to have some sort of MAB gear when using brew.
Between the two targets:
dINT = Capped in both cases
DEX = The same
INT = The same
fTP = The same
MAB = The same
So the only reasons they wouldn't take the same damage basically boil down to Damage reducing traits like MDB or MDT. The fact that they come out so close to 2/3 (1/1.5) points towards MDB rather than MDT, imop. MDT works on a /256 system and can't accurately represent 2/3 to the level of my accuracy here (thanks to it being like 20k damage).
171/256 = 66.79%
171/256*32844 = 21938 (newp!)
170/256 = 66.50%
170/256*32844 = 21810 (newp!)
I suspect this 50 MDB is actually common among many NMs. They seem to take less magic damage than normal mobs even though they have (otherwise) similar stats.
Yes, but if the MAB isn't solely from the brew, it's possible for the MDB to be a different value.
I editted my post, didn't realize you were still awake! The source of the MAB doesn't matter, as they're both AoE Weaponskills. I just gave two examples of weaponskills that hit worms and Glavoid (was brewing at his pop spot).
What I meant to get at was that having 100 MAB in gear would mean 1100/150 for MagicATT ratio. I'm guessing that's not the case though.
Nono, that's true. If I have 1100/150 for MAtk ratio on Glavoid and 1100/100 MAtk ratio on the Vermes Cardium, then the difference is 1/1.5 though.
Sounds about right, also:

Two questions about that:
1. That means brew brings you up to and does not add 999 stats I assume
2. You didn't floor WSC, yet came up with the correct number. Wtf? The flooring actually makes a difference.
Yes, was kinda of assumed since stats will say 70+929 or whatever. Always used those values and they came out correctly.
I floored twice, I just didn't point it out. Am I missing one? <.<2. You didn't floor WSC, yet came up with the correct number. Wtf? The flooring actually makes a difference.
Ok, I never actually looked at my stats screen with brew on. The floor I'm talking about is the WSC prior to applying alpha.
279.72 + 279.72
According to BG-Wiki formulas, these should be floored prior to adding them. However, the number you arrive at is 559 instead of 558.
BGwiki says: WSC = floor (floor((A x A%) + (B x B%)) x α)
So floor after adding before alpha and after alpha.
I saw double floors when I looked earlier. Not sure what's up, but you're right.
On LV36 MNK, Gangley Gean did a 1.1k normal hit. Either he (And possibly other NMs) receives a damage multiplier, has a ridiculous base damage, is capable of producing negative level correction, or some other feature is going on.
If we assume the best possible pDIF for Gean (Using ranged attack critical hit, which is not the case since it was a non-critical hit melee attack), we have 1101/3.75 = 293.6 base damage (Using Wiki's pDIF page). Assuming capped fSTR for any base damage, that would require roughly 257 base damage.
257/9 = 28.555555
257 + 8 + 28 = 293
This would take 184 STR on a LV36 Elvaan MNK/WHM.
So if this is correct (And it's not since it's an exaggeration of the mob's pDIF, which means these stats are MINIMAL):
257 Base damage
184 STR
I'm pretty sure I've overlooked some aspect, but if not, would these stats (As a minimum, probably much higher since 3.15 would make it 349 base damage from a 2H critical hitting and the mob didn't even critical hit!) make sense given your experience taking hits from this NM?
Monster pDIF is different from player pDIF. It goes up to 4.
1101/4 = ~275 base damage
Assuming some of that was from fSTR, he'd have around 250 base damage. I think that's actually pretty reasonable for monsters. Think about how much Tiamat Mighty Strikes crits for.... their base damage is off the charts. This, along with how weak fSTR gets when it goes negative, is why VIT isn't worth a shit.
Thanks, Byrth. Do you know of a page with monster's pDIF and such? I couldn't find it on WikiWiki (Didn't check BG Wiki since I wasn't sure if they page was made yet).
tbqh, I don't. I received the information indirectly through Kirschy. The basic gist of it was that pet pDIF = Avatar pDIF = Monster pDIF.
Actually it's not the case here I think. This tree NM uses TP moves after which it changes it's melee mode from single hit to double attacks which takes 2 shadows instead of one but are listed as 1 hit. It's kinda unique effect that scales 2 of his swing into AoE attack (like Ironclads) that has twice more damage than his normal melee swing.
It's even on Wiki actually.
"Upon using Drill Branch, Gangly Gean's melee attacks will use the Drill Branch animation, and hits 1-3 times despite showing only one hit in the chat log. These attacks are also Conal AoE, and deal reduced damage to anyone without hate. (approx. 200-500+ damage) "
The hit was an initial claim (Right at pop), so he couldn't have had TP/done a TP move.
