Ipad vs Xoom vs Transformer

Is Samsung Galaxy 10.1 is the #1 Android tablet now?

Honestly hard to say.....

The specs are near identical, but the galaxy is $100 more expensive.

The Asus still has a SD slot, but the galaxy does not??? (This has to be a typo on the best buy website)

Yet, im reading that the galaxy has a built in usb port? I would kill for one of those on my transformer..... (without needing to buy the keyboard dock)

Does anyone with these tablets use them for reading, over more common ereaders like kindle/nook/etc.? How is it? Really want to get an e-reader, but if it's pretty comfortable to read on like a Transformer, I may just go that route for all the extensive added functionality.

Thoughts? better to just have a dedicated e-ink e-reader?

Use my iPad 2 for reading all the time. Never had issues with eye strain etc. They work perfectly fine, but you you need to ask yourself where you are going to be doing most of the reading at. If you are going to be doing reading outside in the sunlight, an e-reader will be better than one of the Pad/Tabs. Inside reading mostly will mean you can just about get away with anything. It's all going to boil down to your OS/Brand preference.

^ This. Just so you know, if you EVER want to read outside, you need an e-ink screen. It's mostly impossible to read on a tablet screen outside in the sun. Also, some people's eyes bother them if they look a computer screen for too long.

It also depends on how long you read. I'll often sit and read for several hours at a time. For that length, an e-Ink device is a lot less strain on my eyes.

its priced a little higher then the Eee pad. but its specs are better so thats a judgment call. lot of people are saying it is the Best buy(no pun... ). I myself will stick with Eee pads and save myself the extra 100~150 ^^ all depends on the person.

My bad for the second post but ill give it a shot. Owner of Eee pad transformer/ Kindle.

I use the Kindle for reading, I did my best to see how the pad held up but its no contest, hands down with the cover with a light it rocks the ipad/ any android. Its not bad on the Transformer but when Im outside even with brightness turned all the way up I cant always read.

Then we move onto its a Computer screen, I was reading for almost 12 hours last night on my kindle( back from a trip! )
Id never even think about doing it that long on my Transformer. Its your call, the Kindle is only $200 for the top model(for the 3g and no counting the XL because of its size)

If you have the money id say get a Kindle to go along side your Ipad/tab/whatever. It really is like reading a book.

Fast edit: Eee pad and what not is much better for PDFs that might have page breaks, and columns. Kindle does not handle them very well. So if you have blueprints or manuals id drop them on your tablet.

I feel like B&N should higher me at this point but, food for thought the new nook is back to e-ink, but I guess it's already been rooted. which afaik you could probably get all the andriod apps on it, the only down side everything will be black n' white.

It's a possibility though if you decide you want e-ink but with a little functionality. I'd do some research first though and see what/how be able to root it to see if it's something you want.

I'm not actually too worried about eye-strain, I'm pretty damn accustomed to looking at a computer monitor for many hours on end. And I don't really plan on ever reading outside, unless I'm in a shady place. At the same time I don't really have that much need for a tablet PC either; for a majority of their functions, either my iphone or computer will suffice for me. The only function I'm really looking to add is watching some decent quality live streams (like from justin.tv) on a decent sized but portable screen, and I'm not really sure which options are even capable of that (either inherently or with tweaks/apps).

That said, I was thinking about going half-way with a Nook Color. It looks like it can do a majority of the traditional tablet stuff if its rooted, and even a decent amount right out of the box, but is also a more manageable size and is far cheaper than most tablets. Does anyone have experience with it (rooted or not), particularly with its video output (youtube, justin.tv, etc)? As that's the main tablet function I'd actually be interested in, if it doesn't work particularly well, I'll just go with the far cheaper Nook Touch or Kindle 3, both of which seem highly recommended as dedicated e-readers go.

I had given up on getting an iPad because of cost and all that, but recently came into some money (not enough to buy one, but can certainly help) and now my GF wants me to buy one. I bought a Nook not even 2 weeks ago and absolutely love it, although it doesn't handle PDFs the way I want, even if I try to convert and that shit.

So I have a laptop and a nook, would an iPad be a good thing to have as far as taking to class and taking notes or viewing slides? I'd get the bluetooth keyboard of course. I also love the other features, but for stuff like studying and note taking, is the iPad a good "supplement"? I can do my big work on the computer, but it's too big to carry to class. Just want something portable that can double as a time killer with games/apps and isn't shitty like a netbook.

Shit, I used to read powerpoint slides on my iphone. I'd imagine iPad would server pretty well for that purpose. Dunno about the other stuff though, I always took notes by hand.
