Doesn't your student union give you some sort of health insurance?

What he needs isn't typically covered much by insurance though, is it? It'd be considered "routine" care, which my provider (Anthem) doesn't actually cover under their general plan (other eye problems are). They do offer an optional vision and hearing buy-up, but the vision portion essentially boils down to a savings plan as you can only get money towards glasses every couple years.
That said, most places are pretty reasonable as a result. The optometrist partnered with the Vision Center at my local Wal Mart is like $67 for an exam. I think if I had the Anthem vision coverage, it'd be a $40 co-pay instead (woo).

I used to have vision insurance that was like a $5 copay and gave 1 free exam a year and up to $200 in materials (ie. glasses, contacts, etc.) every 2 years. It was only $9 a month but that was through my company. (EyeMed was the provider)
Was trying to find some rates for you CS, but it seems EyeMed only does through companies, as well as Aflac. Blue Cross is expensive too. :/
I would go see if the school offers anything to students though.
Generally, by the time you need to make a claim, you are too late to go get insurance.
Are you ineligible for medicaid?
Too lazy to read if anybody else brought this up, but glasses like that in stores are always reading glasses for old people, you're out of luck son. Maybe try one of those charities that collects old glasses for African ppl.
Also w/ this revelation, your recent bike accident b/c you didn't see the car becomes that much funnier.
the difference is that most people develop poor eyes when they are very young, and I don't think it's within the insurance companies best interest to only go with people that don't have pre-existing conditions (when it comes to eye care). This is why most eye care providers are health care providers. They don't make the bunch of their money off of the eye part, but the health. It's like how some banks give free checking accounts, because they know they'll get the money from the customers elsewhere.
Honestly, I'm 99% positive that's the case as at one point I was unemployed and signed up for eye insurance because my type of contacts are expensive as fuck. There was no issue signing me up even though I've been near sighted since I was like in 3rd grade. (different company too from my previous employer.)
[edit] Also to point out the overhead for insurance companies are very low. vision insurance is basically limited to eye exams/glasses/contacts. ( average maybe $250 every few years). Any surgery/issues involving the eye are actually classified under medical not vision. Some plans now include lasik but their monthly is a LOT more expensive because of it.
Doesn't help much with the actual prescription but glasses are cheap.as.FUCK here http://www.zennioptical.com/
My dad buys a new pair of glasses from them every once in a while when his break (he does a lot of physical work).
double post, thanks school network![]()
I've no medical coverage, lol. Aside from my ER trip when I was 15, the last time I went to the doctor or dentist, I was in middle school

I'd assume so? I used to have it and don't now (like when I was in middle school, lol)Are you ineligible for medicaid?
Already do
Just go and don't pay for it. If you have no coverage, it's not likely that they can make your credit any worse.
I'm certain you have to pay before you receive them (Or it varies, but I know that some will make you pay first).
They usually give you the prescription before payment. Just run away and buy 'em online from Cambodia.
