Why not go to one of those local free clinics and ask the doctor if they can help you? Obviously they might not be able to actually give you an eye exam but they might be able to give you options or recommend you to a place that does pro-bono or charity work and get you a cheap frame. Lens don't get too expensive unless you've got special conditions in your eyes.

Some plans now include lasik but their monthly is a LOT more expensive because of it.

Which is complete bullshit, because when you get lasik, you save a ton of money over your lifetime on new/replaced/broken/lost frames and lenses.

Plus some lasik plans will top you up free of charge if your supervision deteriorates down the road.

I agree, but I think it's bullshit that they list it under vision at all. Like I said any eye issues outside of sight is medical and not vision. Glacoma/cateracts/ etc. etc. are all from your medical insurance. Hell I went to a regular eye doctor over a bump on the inside of my eyelid, he checked it, gave a prescription for it so on and so forth, but they took my medical insurance for it not my vision.

the fact that these companies that offer both (medical and vision insurance) put it under vision is completely blatant that they are after extra premiums. Really they should have included it in medical.

You might want to look at social assistance programs in your community. Not to be harsh, but it would appear to me that someone at your level of poverty would probably be eligible for some form of subsidy or charity exam. Look up the optometrist's association (professional body) for your state, you might find info on their website about charity work or just call them up and ask. I must admit that it makes me sad that you are unable to get very basic care, despite your financial situation and obvious need. Even here in Canada with socialized health care, there's a big gap for "extended" coverage like vision and dental. While you can go to a drop in clinic and see a doctor for free, unless you're on some form of Federal or Provincial Income Assistance, you're on your own when it comes to your eyes and teeth.

I don't believe you don't understand considering how well publicized our fucked up system is about insurance.

I don't think he'd be eligible for govt aid because he's not on welfare (afaik), not under 18, and not at risk for glaucoma.

Have a test 2 weeks from today and review day should be next Wednesday, I at least want to be able to see on the board for then :/, then the day after the test is review for the final, which I also will definitely need to see.

Main reason I was looking for something retailish to begin with so I could get it asap.

Cause he's a black male with no kids. The second he can start pushing out kids he'll get all the coverage he wants. Our system is fucked beyond belief. Hell my wife before we met only qualified for about $100 a month in food stamps despite making only about $7000 the previous year due to how scarce jobs were where she lived.

Being employed, working a certain number of hours/month and making under their a certain value is required.

I'm unemployed, so not eligible.

you may just have to talk to the teacher after class. explain your situation and about how you're waiting to see if you get approved for aid etc. etc. Does your teacher have a TA? usually the TA is responsible to take notes in class as well in case students need tutoring. You can look into getting a copy of those notes if possible.

It's a community college. The only TA he has is for setting up/breaking down lab. None for lecture.

Edit: lol and I think he'd be less sympathetic to me anyways because I have him for 2 classes, one of which is a BS class, which I have an 85 in right now with like 50% attendance, lol. And I always sit in the back because in that class I am able to go straight off the powerpoint notes w/o a prob, so I'm in the faaaar back, lol. Then for Organic II I'm all up in the front, lol
