gimme a few will give it a listen
from a dj's standpoint I'd never play it as it's just not my thing, but as far as production a few things:
It's a bit schizophrenic. I'd say at at 2.28 keep it like that and play with stripping it down and building it back up. Also the pitched percussive pattern that comes in at around .58 starts out good and then kinda goes down hill as it build up. I'd play with that a little and make it stand out more with less going on, maybe put some overdrive on it and move a parametric eq moving across it with a wide Q to give it more movement without adding too much. The breakdown is kinda corny with the vocal bit and resonating FM squelch, but I do like the delay FX on that same vocal bit at 2.45, maybe put a bitcrusher on it to give it more grit and tuck it in a bit more with a compressor and have it pop off the kick by sidechaining it off of the kick. The second buildup with the female vocal is shit, the vocal itself sounds like a bootleg McLaughlin or something and then it clashes with the other cheesy sample about black lights thats all complete raverkiddy crap imo.
EQing is a big thing but that's a whole life lesson, but it goes like this:
Bassline 54hz
Kick 81hz
Mids ( snare, lead, some bass sounds ) 200hz - 800hz
Mid Highs ( hats, shakers, claps, toms, other sounds ) 800hz-2000hz
Highs ( hats, beeps, female vocals) 1800hz +
There's different interpretations on that but the constant is have your kick at around 81hz and your bassline sitting below it at around 60 or less, or double up on your bass channel and sit one sub frequency below 60 for a nice rumble and another one pitched at about 200~ for a nice mid sound.
This stuff is the hardest part writing as it takes a bit to hear whats going on. Your mix doesn't sound too muddy but it seems like it could use some tightening up, but removing a lot of the excess shit thats in there like the female vocal and other noises in there could give it some breathing room.
I'd say go back to the first buildup, remove the shit sample and play with it from there.
yo perm i learned stuff from this. not to be on your nuts but we should talk eqing one day. not tonight though I'm too busy doing really important things.
ps serious about the eqing stuff.
Thanks man!
I don't do beep boop music though
oh you already replied. yeah man I'll just add you on facebook bro. My band doing some home recording with Cubase, and the mixdown process is intense if you're teaching yourself all this shit at once.
yeah eqing is murder for sure, and it's pretty universal outside of bleep bloop shit ;]
odon feel free to hit me up on FB about that stuff as well
I don't normally listen to this type of music and I know this song is kinda old but I think that Skrillex song/video First of the Year just converted me
it is motherfucking badass
Holy fuck this is old
