Neither disappointed nor shocked that the Penguins lost last night. Should be an interesting off-season for the Penguins this year, anxious to see where Shero takes this team in terms of re-signing and hopefully a few new acquisitions. Crossing my fingers for a Staal trade, he's atrocious. Hopefully he didn't kill any trade value of his, but it's quite clear he'll never be anything but an incredibly good third line center.

Complete opposite from my experiences in Boston. That city was a construction shithole when I was there. The homeless people were raging assholes compared to the NYC ones. The people there were meaner than people in NYC, and that's really saying something.

Looking at the Ference/Halpern thing, it's more of an incidental contact type thing. Yeah, Ference gave the shoulder bump a bit, but Halpern was skating around not overly paying attention to anything. It happens, and he was okay after a few minutes in the quiet room. Players bump into each other dozens of times in a game.

So, who's the pick for MVP: St Louis, D. Sedin or Corey Perry?

Perry doesn't deserve it, I don't care that he scored 50 goals or that he's the only one this season. If anyone on the Ducks should get MVP it'd be Selanne because averaging a point a game at 40 is way more impressive than someone who scored 50 goals mostly due to the line he played with. If Getzlaf and Ryan aren't with Perry, no way he scores 50 by himself.

Players have a responsibility, especially when they're miles away from the puck, to take care. You can't claim "I have the right of way" when you're not involved in the play in any shape or form. Its this careless behind-the-play "he ran right into my shoulder/elbow/stick/knee" crap that is the worst type of hits in hockey. Ference absolutely knew he was there and could have done any number of things to make sure he didn't shoulder the guy right in the side of the head, but the only thing he did do was adjust so that the collision would be absorbed 100% by the other guy.

Also who knows if Halpern was really ok or not. Game 7, tied in the 3rd period, you can bet these guys won't let a doctor get in the way of them playing.

It's the same thing with football... a ton of injuries happen every year on kickoffs, turnovers, etc. when the ball changes hands and somebody gets laid out with a blindside hit from a player just looking to take advantage. It's unsportsmanlike.

Halpern was beamed off into Dustin Penner's ADD-worldland, or wherever the fuck he goes when he's not paying attention (read: when it's his shift) and ran into Ference. Granted Ference somewhat put his shoulder into him, he could've done much, much worse. Thankfully they weren't playing against Philly or he would've gotten Pronger'd or Mike Richards'd.

lol... idk, you can't have it both ways. Obviously it's a rough sport and that's partially why we all love it, but if guys keep getting hurt on cheap headshots, they'll eventually neuter it the way they did to kickoffs in the NFL for next year... especially considering all of the new info coming out regarding how unpredictable the severity and long-term effects of concussions really are.

In the meantime, I hope all of the Detroit Red Wings get concussed because my Michigan friends won't stop asking me who the Blackhawks are playing tonight.
