Yes, the appeal of being categorized as 'true' or 'old school' or what have you is there, but for fucks' sake, why on earth are people begrudged getting into something if the only black mark is that they happened to get into it at a later date than 'x'? Or because of 'x'? If out of ten 'bandwagon' fans, even one continues on, isn't that good?

Regular season hockey is fun but it's not as intense as Playoff season. Same for baseball. But when was the last time you saw any other Detroit sport team in the playoffs?

Myself and most of my friends who are into the game like Bender are more fans of the game than fans of a team regardless. Yes I prefer to see the Hawks do well, and my main rooting interest lies with them, but I love the game. I watch any game that's on if it's live. I watch regardless of team, or even regardless of league. Last year I was watching NHL playoffs, AHL playoffs, CHL playoffs, World Juniors, and even some random Swedish league games that ended up on NHLN at 5 in the morning. Hell me and Finny grabbed beers and watched a bunch of 11 year olds play a tournament championship game just because we were already there and it was live hockey, lol.

I was just trying to find something to compare it to, and fuck it's hard.

God i couldn't tell you how many rangers fans randomly showed up at the sports bar i go to when the rangers where playing the caps, with less then 1/4 knowing any players name.

I jumped on the bandwagon like some people did 14 years ago when they made the run to the 97 playoffs and won. Then after the Vladdie incident happened and they swept the caps for the win and pushed him around the ice will forever be the time I'll remember i became a hockey fan.

And then i moved out to NJ and adopted the devils as my ugly step daughter team.

Yes I prefer to see the Hawks do well, and my main rooting interest lies with them, but I love the game.

I've always had this internal debate about fandom. I considered moving to Manhattan or Chicago last year and I was seriously torn about what to do. I came to the conclusion that I've loved the Caps since I was a teenager (fuck yeah Mike Ridley vintage unis) so they'd have to be and always will be my #1 team. But I would definitely follow my new hometown team as well. It was sort of the opposite for me for baseball, I've liked the Cubs since I knew what baseball was (fuck yeah visiting Wrigley as a kid, also vintage Ryno unis) but then DC got a baseball team (well sort of) so I root for both.

I also hate the fans who claim you have to root against your supposed rivals. A ton of Caps fans wanted Pittsburgh to lose so bad, but wouldn't you rather have faced a Crosby/Malkin-less Penguins team than the SEAN BERGENHEIM MOTHERFUCKIN' FREIGHT TRAIN?

Me and this drunk guy from Illinois had a conversation about Wings/Hawks last night. It really came down to this

1. The rivalry is still there, but so many other teams have rivalries with the wings or hawks over the years of playing (Hawks/Blues, Hawks/Cunucks, Wings/Avalanche, Wings/Sharks) that its taken a lot of the hatred out original rivalry.
2. The is a respect level among the original 6, and i would much rather see the cup go to one of them.

I can sit down and watch any hockey game regardless of who is playing or what is at stake, for the most part I feel like hockey is the only sport as well that I can do this with, but not having NFL Gameday, I also had to realize that I'm sort of forced to do this with NFL too the way they televise things. There's only a few teams that if are playing on Sunday, I don't even bother watching but then again the NFL is kinda smart about that and doesn't put shitty teams on tv lol.

Also, unrelated: Eric Lindros blames the rules for rise of concussions.

I freely admit to being bandwagon with the Bolts. But I'm only rooting for them because my team was eliminated, watching the playoffs is less fun if you don't have a favorite, and because they're the local team.
