Holy shit I go to Vancouver and THINGS HAPPEN.

Rafalski retiring is bittersweet, he had a good couple of years when he first came hear, and was really like a mini-Lidstrom. However his game has tapered off severely, although he was still on pace for over 60 points this season had he stayed healthy all year. That, though, seems to be the reason he is retiring. He apparently played the playoffs without an ACL, and that takes some goddamn dedication. Sad to see his career end a bit early, he seemed like a really good guy (outside him apparently being a pretty hardcore right-wing guy). Glad to see his $6m off the books, but congrats on a goddamn nice career Rafalski.

This all but confirms that the Wings will be signing (at least) one of the big time defensemen going to UFA (maybe RFA, looking at you Weber, lolpipedream).

Hannan, Kaberle (lol), Brewer, Bieksa, Wiz, Ehrhoff are all relatively big, obviously not a Lidstrom or Weber but guys that could be a very solid addition to almost any team.

If Lidstrom retires the defense is going to look terrifying in a bad way I think.

You can have Erhoff but I pray to god the Nucks resign Bieksa. Still think he's better for the team then Erhoff who is great offensively but so-so defensively.

It would be a tough call for Gillis to let Erhoff go for free since he told CBC his goal at the beginning of the season was to get 200 points from his defensemen.
