I doubt Bieksa or Ehrhoff makes it to FA, and certainly both of them won't. Vancouver has a ton of cap space to play with and both players have said they want to stay. Really the only way I see Vancouver letting even one of them go is if Nashville makes Weber available.

Hannan, Kaberle (lol), Brewer, Bieksa, Wiz, Ehrhoff are all relatively big, obviously not a Lidstrom or Weber but guys that could be a very solid addition to almost any team.

If Lidstrom retires the defense is going to look terrifying in a bad way I think.

If the Caps didn't already have eight defensemen under contract for next season (unless Poti retires) I would really have liked to bring back Hannan. Just a solid defender and he hits well and hits low. He's not really good in the offensive zone but he's great at moving the puck to the forwards to start the break. Hard to justify offering him a contract with the depth on the blueline though.

Pretty much this...I dont see that happening at all. I'd love to see Nash move out of Lolumbus and onto a real hockey team, but hell would have to freeze over.

The only way Weber will be moving is if a team is shipping 4 1st rounders back (via qualifying offer rules), which is potentially worth it but I know that Holland at least would never give that up, he values picks quite highly. They would have to offer something like 8-10 mil per season, or something Nashville couldn't afford.

Wisniewski seems decently likely to be a direct replacement for Rafalski, as Babcock and the Wings seem to like keeping a right and left shot on the blueline for the PP, and the team has a big shortage of right handed shots. He probably wouldn't be any worse defensively than Rafalski was this past season, along with being more physical.

There are a couple other UFA defensemen that are under 30 and interesting; Babchuk, Pitkanen, Ian White, even Ericsson although I expect Detroit will bring him back. The class isn't as strong as last year but IMO it's better than the forwards available.

In reality Ericsson really isn't that bad but he could be a lot better if he wasn't A) Seemingly retarded and B) Afraid about being physical with guys 6 inches shorter than him. He is far too mistake prone at the moment to be a solid addition to a team.

Sick tattoo on Mike Green, sadly that won't get him on Team Canada for a gold medal. Needs to focus on his end of the ice for that to happen.

Right now our defense next year is Hamhuis, Edler, Ballard, and more then likely Tanev. The fact that Ballard is actually seeing some ice now and delivered what could be the hit of the playoffs might make him a bit more tradeable. If Gillis can find someone to take Ballard he might re-sign both Erhoff and Bieksa. I'd prefer Bieksa because Hamhock and him are a great defensive pairing.

As a Dallas fan I'd kill if we signed Erhoff or Bieksa. I know Erhoff has some defensive issues but he'd be a huge upgrade on our blue line. I'd be happy with Brewer too, we need a shut down kind of D man.
