Habs re-signed Andrei Kostitsyn for one year at $3.25 million. To the Montreal fans in this thread, do want?

Also might be a good gauge for what Laich will fetch per year.

A lot of people will hate the Kostitsyn deal, but 3.25 for a ~45 point scorer isn't horrible and the same as what he has been earning. Just a pity that his brother was given away for nothing, gets paid $2.7m less, and scored more points in less games.

Seems about a good figure, he just does so many little things that make him valuable, forechecking, back checking, good defensive positioning and play, plus this year he had a career year down in Atlanta so, I'd say that's a spot on range of his value to resign.

Easily worth $4m if he plays like he did this past season or even improves upon it. The team's captain probably shouldn't be making less than $4m anyways, and he deserves it, the guy is ferocious.

For you Thomas fans, here's his story about when he was treed by a bear.

It was a Saturday morning skate, just a few hours before his first NHL start in Edmonton, and the newest Bruin goalie regaled myself and Jim Matheson of the Edmonton Journal about the time he was treed by a bear while hunting north of Lynn Lake, Manitoba.

A location, in Thomas’ words, situated "at the end of the road, man."

"I’ve got a knife in my teeth, and I’m pointing my bow and arrow down the side of the tree I HOPE the bear is coming up. He could be coming up the other side," Thomas said that day. "I haven’t been that scared since I was five years old."

He’d gone from a shot at a bruin to a shot with the Bruins, having stuck with the team after coming to camp on a free agent invite.

"I’ve never been here before," he said that day. "This is what I’ve worked for my whole life."

Hey, if the Habs bought out Gomez's contract, then offered him a reasonable 2-3m that he's worth, does that come off the books for cap space?

I'm guessing no. Otherwise the NYR could buy out their entire team and re-sign them on a yearly basis as a clever ploy to spend even more money on a terrible team.

They pay the player 2/3s of the remainder of his contract. The team still retains half his annual cap hit for twice the number of years remaining.

So they'll buy out Drury for 2/3 of the 5 mil he's owed and spread it out over two years. Meaning he'd count against the cap for roughly 1.6 mil.
