Illegal hit + injury should = suspension.
Want to avoid a suspension from freak injuries? Don't make illegal hits.

How was it "illegal"? Almost EVERYONE (outside of Canuck fans ofc) has that did not warrant a suspension.
It was interference. Guy never had the puck.
This is one classy dude.

The hit was the interference lol.
It wasn't a savage hit, but going by the guidelines that were used in the Horton hit, this should have been a suspension.
Do I think this hit requires a suspension? No.
Should the NHL remain consistent? Yes. That's why it should be a suspension.
Yeah, I'm not sure how anyone is viewing this as an illegal hit. People get ridden in to the boards every game, it just happened that this time, the guy was bent down and his lower back hit awkwardly. It's not like he rode him full force into the boards, they sort of glided in but just hard enough to have injury occur. Should the stick have been wedged between the legs? No. It should have been interference, and just that.
And neither was the hit Rome made on Horton, the NHL called it a hockey play gone bad but suspended him because the hit was late and injured Horton. As we've said multiple times, its the fact that the NHL specifically said they suspended a canuck for delivering a late hit that injured a player but didn't do anything to a Boston player that delivered a late hit that injured a player.
We've already wasted so many pages on this, just move on.
He hit the guy illegally -- guy never had the puck, was in a vulnerable position, got driven awkwardly into the boards -- and as a result the guy has a broken vertebrae and won't be back to playing for months. And you don't want to suspend the offending player even for one game? Sure, he didn't mean it and it could have been worse if he deliberately slammed the dude, but still an illegal hit lead to an injury. It should be a suspension.
Riding guys into the boards when they don't have the puck is an illegal hit (interference) and should be penalized every time, and if someone gets a freak injury (Pacioretty, Raymond) because of it, then the hitter should get a suspension. That's the risk you take when you make bad hits.Yeah, I'm not sure how anyone is viewing this as an illegal hit. Is it game time yet? This day is moving ridiculously slow...
Honestly, we are riding a thin line here now where every hit is being viewed as a suspension and I really don't want to go down this road where hitting is just going to be taken out of the game totally.
So at this point is there anyway Thomas doesn't win the Conn Smythe? Even if he somehow completely shits the bed in game 7 and gets pulled how do you not give him the trophy? It would be funny as fuck if that actually happen but yeah not gonna happen lol.
Yeah, it's so much better having playoffs where 50% of every teams' best players are playing like shit because they are injured. Makes for much more exciting hockey.
Sorry Aurik, but watch the video again. Raymond and Boychuk were working for the puck. When Raymond was hunched over Boychuk lost sight of it. In his eyes, he was just taking Raymond out of the play. This wasn't even a vulnerable position as you're claiming it was. Raymond went into the boards ass first. It wasn't even a malicious heavy hit. After watching the replay again it's not even a major example of interference. Boychuk finished his check.
So i guess now we just want to suspend a player every time a player gets hurt?
Gunna do eye for an eye where every game the injured player is out is a game you miss?
Youre completely missing the point. Under normal circumstances, all of us (except Aurik) are agreeing that the Boychuk hit is not suspend worthy. The reason these are no longer normal circumstances is Mike Murphy ruled Rome's hit worthy of a suspension because it was "1 second late and caused serious injury", and ONLY that. So Boychuk delivers a hit to a player without the puck, and breaks his vertebrae, and under the conditions set for Rome's suspension (late and caused serious injury), Boychuk should ideally be suspended for his hit.
Raymond never even had the puck, at all, ever, so yeah its interference lol
To even consider injury = suspension is absolutely ridiculous to begin with.So i guess now we just want to suspend a player every time a player gets hurt?

Few things:
1) You shouldn't be able to hit guys before they have possession of the puck. In this instance, Raymond never had possession of the puck, yet Boychuck can-openered him, spinning him around and preventing him from ever getting the puck, and then pile-drove him into the boards after the puck was well away from the initial contact.
2) "Finishing your check" is bullshit. Once a guy gives up the puck you should need to make every reasonable effort to stop your hit. What, you think football makes up these "legal hits on the QB" rules because they're sissies? They're trying to protect their players.
Unless you enjoy watching teams with their superstars observing the games from the press box, you need to wake up and see where the NHL is headed. Want to know why the best playoff hockey always seems to be in round 1 of the playoffs?
