Windows 7 VPN / Firewall issue

Hi all, our network is VPNd to another network(NJ -> florida buildings). With windows XP, if I can't find a computer on their network, I was able to turn off the firewall, which would typically solve my issue (Allowing me to see that computer). However in windows 7, I'm not having any luck finding computers over the network with firewall disabled. Any suggestions?

Are you trying to RDP into these computers or just remotely access their shared files?

By 'finding' you mean looking at all the devices on the network in 'Network Connections' GUI?

I'm unable to even ping the server (Windows SBS 2008) from the windows 7 64bit professional computer up here.
I can ping their router, i can ping and see other computers on their network from the windows 7 computer. The computer cannot ping the server, find it in the gui, or connect to it directly (using //192.168.50.2 for example)
The server can ping the computer in question.

I turned the firewall off, I turned the antivirus off...still no go.
My windows XP computers over here can see, connect to, and access their server easily.
