Refresh my memory. Why can't you sail through Valyria again?
I mean, I guess we should have seen this change coming though because in the last episode Stannis mentioned Stone Men being in the ruins of Valyria. I don't remember that being the case.
Either way, I kind of like the change just so we can see the ruins of Valyria.
Beyond the general superstitions of demons and the like, you can't sail through Valyria because the air is so sulfurous as to be poisonous, if I recall.
That said, I knew they were going to replace Jon Connington with Jorah.
Ah okay. Like I said though, I'm okay with those kinds of changes just so we can get a glimpse at Valyria. It doesn't really affect much in the long run. Book canon will still be book canon.
I do appreciate the homage to Jon Connington, but can he really be replaced? You can't consolidate his storyline into Jorah's because Jon Connington's storyline revolves around Aegon. After the greyscale, they meet the Golden Company then turn to Westeros. Aegon plans to take Storm's End with JC and the Golden Company. I think Arianne is also riding to them to confirm Aegon's identity. So nowhere to take the JC storyline in the show. I think it was just kind of a nice easter egg/shoutout to the books and that's it.
Jorah is absolutely replacing Connington, in the same way that Daenerys is being merged with Young Griff. Their storylines, including the Golden Company and Arianne, have been deleted.
It seems as though Jorah will fill the role of doomed advisor, who hides his affliction for one last chance at glory, helping the rightful heir claim the throne. The question is, who will Jorah accidentally infect? Common speculation is that Connington will infect Young Griff, after all, ironically foiling the plan he stayed alive to ensure. Does that mean Daenerys will be infected? I doubt it, but someone probably will be, to maintain the tragedy.
I just really dislike thinking about the implications of all the show changes on the future of the book story. if I knew I could avoid spoilers I would just stop watching the show but alas
He'll infect Grey Worm. That would be a tragedy right?
(Seriously what is the point of that love story when we all know one of them is going to die)
Really I think this might support the idea that there will end up being an outbreak of greyscale in Westeros.
What the point of that is supposed to be I have no idea.
Shut your whore mouth. King Grey Worm, First of his Name, will sit the Iron Throne by the end of the show.
Turning White Walkers into Stone will either kill them, or make them stronger obviously. I forget how Stone Ice Zombie Magic works, but w/e the outcome, it will be glorious.Really I think this might support the idea that there will end up being an outbreak of greyscale in Westeros.
What the point of that is supposed to be I have no idea.
Actually I'm thinking mereen might have a greyscale outbreak instead of the pale mare.
"The Smoking Sea is the place where the sea flooded into the shattered remnant of the Valyrian peninsula after the Doom of Valyria.[1] Filled with volcanoes and smoking stacks of rock, it is said to boil in places and to be haunted by demons.[1]"
AWOIAF
"The sky is always red above Valyria.[10] ”
"any sailor who so much as glimpses the fiery mountains of Valyria rising "
Meh. I'm more angry that Barry is ded. I was actually hoping Grey Worm would die instead because this love story is lame. I'm gonna skip watching the rest of the season for now.
I don't believe you until I see you skip the next ep![]()
what's it like being so worried about deviations from the books that you willfully miss out on good television
^
I've accepted them as two different entities. And honestly, it's kind of nice having the feeling of "I have no idea where this is going" back in the show again. I've accepted that the show will spoil the ending of the series for me, but the ride along the way will be different enough that I will still be looking forward to the books.
my fave part about it is over half the shit they cut or change is for the best cause martin cant write well enough to realize hes including a ton of superfluous shit
killing barristan is a great change, he's not useful and it gives viewers a reason to actually disliek the sons of the harpy, something woefully absent from the books, because we don't give a fuck about mereen or its people
And can we talk about Dany going Mad Queen at the start of the ep? Hopefully its foreshadowing for her future :D
Well if there is no Barristan as Hand of the Queen, can't wait for Mereen to burn at the end of the season since no one will be in charge.
