I have really high fucking hopes for DwD.

Dany coming to Westeros ;D
Jon battling the Others in earnest ;D
Anything Davos does ;D
Bran chapters D;
You're crazy, three was awesome. Four was a bit dull at times but I just cannot dislike his writing style so I still loved it. And knowing why Feast was structured the way it was, I'm even more excited for Dances. Wish I had read the series next month instead of last month so I didn't have to wait so long![]()
3 > 2 > 1 >>>>>>>>>> 4
Feast would have been a lot better with less Brienne. A book without Tyrion can only do so much.
That being said I'm expecting 5 to own like no other.
i kinda love Brienne, she is one of the few true knights in the series even if she is just a sword-wench
plus rape-choking Shagwell with one hand and shanking him over and over again in the tummy while screaming "laugh" is p sweet
but yeah Storm is best followed closely by Clash
I liked some of the POVs in 2 and 3 I suspect. I remember not liking Theon and Davos, but I can't remember which book their POVs were in. I just finished reading 1 last night so I'll start 2 today and probably 3 next week.
I definitely did not like 4 though. Too much Brienne, an absolutely pointless character, and absolutely no Daenarys. Made me sad.
I think I'm the only person who loved Theon and Brienne as PoVs. The only PoVs that I really disliked were pre-abuse Sansa, Bran, and Samwell.
Catelyn was pretty insufferable as a character, too, but she had some of the best events take place in her chapters.
I definitely don't think Brienne was a "pointless character." Far from it. Through her eyes, we see 1) that Sandor Clegane is still alive, 2) what happened to Beric, Gendry, the Brotherhood and Catelyn, 3) more of her past.
Brienne is a character who was born disadvantaged, and has made the absolute most of her situation, flouting the societal gender roles which torment her, as opposed to . . . Samwell, who is a pathetic boy, an allegory of America's obese population, who refuses to try and improve his lot. He literally has zero character development, even after he slays on Other or has sex with Gilly. I'd rather have blind Maester Aemon as a PoV character, with Sam dying in his place.
I didn't like Bran either. All he had was emoness for the first book, and the same dreaming thing for all the others over and over again.
I liked Sansa because she was a different female character than you usually got, right from the beginning. She wasn't the honourable motherly type, or the tomboy type, or the warrior princess type, which are the usual tropes when it comes to fantasy novels. She was smart, but had been brainwashed by her family to be a "good girl", which is something that happens in real life to girls. And she made a lot of mistakes and learnt from them, if slowly. I think that she'll end up being quite the power broker by the end of the series now that she has Littlefinger teaching her manipulation. I can see her ending up being Lady Stark, and possibly Queen in the North, or even Queen of all Westeros if Daenarys has to sacrifice herself and her dragons to save the world from the Long Night.
Sansa was kind of enjoyable after Ned's death, I agree. She's certainly becoming an interesting character with much potential. I'm hoping she'll rid herself of Littlefinger in book 6, somehow. It would be excellent to see her go from being a pawn to killing the person who is, arguably, the best at the game of thrones.
I wonder if Blackfish will go to the Vale and help expedite that process.
Spoilery review for next book: http://www.publishersweekly.com/978-0-553-80147-7
That review makes it sound like exactly what I was hoping for and what I think most people were expecting. July 12th can't come soon enough.
I don't think we'll see Dany on Westerios soil till the last book.
Also, @ book review. Hell yes at more clues/confirmation to Jon's parentage :D
Actually most speculate that it's going to happen at the end of ADWD. I would be shocked if she wasn't at least leaving Mereen at the end and it's quite possible the book ends with her landing and it was implied from by GRRM's editor that the last chapter takes place in Dorne.
Found this. Massive. Liked it:

Nice ^
I still only in the second book but I find myself skipping all of Danys storyline.
Big mistake?
Huge Mistake to skip any of the characters stories. There are little tidbits everywhere.
As far as Dany making it to Westeros, the reality once again is despite all the petty squabbling for crowns and land in the South, the real fight is at the Wall.
The Wall is where everything will be decided. She is going to have a mess on her hands, and having control of the South wont matter if you have an army of Ice Zombies putting everyone to the sword and adding to their numbers simply by killing more...
About the Bran thing... He will be riding Dragons... it's hinted at/eluded to, multiple times (And I don't think its simply a metaphor). His dreams about it mean something.
I hate how the TV show has glossed the significance of the "old" vs "new" gods. Its important that the Stark's still keep the old gods.
The reemergence of Dragons signifies the return of magic into the world.
Everybody better pull their heads out of their asses and get to the North or there wont be any kingdoms left....
Really? It's so strange how widely varying people are in their likes and dislikes of the POVs. Daenarys was one of my favourites, I really liked how she learnt to lead an army and a people.
There's information in all the POVs, but I am wondering if there are POV characters you could skip over without any determent to the story? What do you guys think?
