Spoiler tags for a week sounds reasonable if people want to insist on some kind of spoiler protection. I'll probably have the book done in three days anyway!

Separating the threads is going to cause even more confusion. I routinely get the book thread and the TV thread mixed up already. I can't imagine the horror of getting another thread to try to figure out.

I'm finishing up book 3 in my re-read again.

You guys were right, 3 is pretty awesome (except for the Catelyn bits). I must have misremembered. I'm certain 4 sucks though.

i liked 4 a lot. i loved the shit in the south and i love jaime and i love brienne and cersei is only okay but her story was cool i also love arya but she did not have enough chapters, sansa was p gay but cool at the end. thx

Four isn't nearly as bad as people claim. I loved Brienne, Sansa and Jaime's stories. Samwell's voyage to Oldtown was the only painful part for me. I even thought Cersei's chapters were very good and insightful.

4 isn't bad, it's just a huge let down after book 3. Everyone wanted to see the PoVs from book 3 continued.

He really painted himself into a corner with book 3 being as good as it was though. I mean when you write one of the best fantasy novels in the last 25 years it's hard to top. I actually think he did himself a favor by splitting the books the way he did and having AFFC suffer for it. Yeah it was a let down but pretty much anything he wrote after ASOS was going to be a bit of let down. This way he can come back with ADWD and everyone will compare it to AFFC instead of ASOS.

I hated Brienne, Damphair, and Samwell, but loved Cersei and Jamie's chapters. Sansa's story got interesting too. You're right it wasn't a bad book at all, just couldn't live up to Storm of Swords.

Her constant emoness about the way she looks is annoying.

Plus, I don't get the whole "gotta be ugly to be a good fighter" trope for women that always appears in fantasy novels.

How many gorgeous MMA fighter girls are there? Typically, women who are "fighters" aren't attractive. Usually the tomboyish girls and downright manly women, like Brienne who is made out to be a freak of nature she's so big, are fighters.

I actually like the fact that she's ugly. It builds character.

Shes one of my favorite characters along with Sam.

My least favorite has become cercie.

Only because we don't need her pov to understand she's a bitter bitch who believes she was cheated out of a throne when Robert died and is becoming increasingly paranoid.
