Jon was one of my least favorite Starks before this book, now he's right up there beside Arya as my favorite. As far as my favorite character that isn't a Stark. Probably Ramsey, or Fat ass Manderly. What a couple of fucking bosses. If this book did nothing else, it really showed how fucking beast some of the minor characters are. Barristan and Belwas are the bosses of the East.

When Jon confronts Mance with that information he confesses that they have also kept secrets. Just as well it's pretty easy to take from Mance not using the horn that the risk of losing the wall would be detrimental to everyone.

Also, Ygritte will be in the show if only for the pre-established sex scenes.

Ok, finished today at lunch. Brief comments:

Enjoyed it overall truthfully. Again, I better not have to wait more than a few years for the next book. And fuck Martin if he dies before the series is over. Seriously.

Dany: Her chapters were a little slow, and I don't really care about her love interests at the moment. However, I really do think they were meant to show her love for "her people" and how she views what a queen should do. The sort of sacrifices she made etc. were in the same vein that Varys commented about in terms of what a ruler for Westerios needs. Whether that will be Dany or her nephew eventually, I dunno.

John: Like Dany, his chapters really showed how he was trying to do what he felt best to defend the realm. That meant choosing real people over dead ones. I liked his chapter and there is no way he is truly dead. I'm hoping when he is reborn- however that is, he'll be free from his Nightwatch oaths. John is bad ass and I he doesn't need to be "tied down" to the Wall to show it.

Ayra: Two of the best chapters in the whole book. Period. Love that girl. I also love that we really have no idea wtf her role will be, but rest assured, it will be awesome.

Tyrion: Meh, I love the guy but his chapters were so-so. More to introduce other elements in the goings on of the world than to further his own personal story line I thought. Either way, better to have him in the book than not.

Everyone else: God I hope Stannis is dead. Hate that fool with a passion. His ugly ass wife can die too; in a fire hopefully to the Red god for all I care. Glad to see Davos is alive and well. I hope he gets a break and can retire; be with his wife and kids. I can't believe Jamie just wanders off alone with Brienne. Really? Oh well, he's too awesome to die yet. Theon... eh, I only sorta like the guy. If he can bounce back; great, if not... well, he doesn't live a very happy/healthy life at present anyway. As for the other Greyjoys: I like Asha still, but don't know what her usefulness is in the overall plot, and Victorian and his other crony brothers: meh, hope they die. I'm just not a fan of the Iron Islands.

Some predictions/guesses:

If Aegon doesn't die being foolhardy, and he really takes to his lessons to be a "good" ruler, then I could see him maybe taking the throne. But I think he'll do something rash and get killed. I agree with a few others, I think that Jon will ride Viserion, because

but not sure of Bran will "ride" Rhaegal. Bran is all tied up in the 'old gods' etc and dragons are from another part of the world, they don't really connect to me. I am still holding out for Tyrion to ride Rhaegal, Lannisters have 'the blood of the dragon' in them, right? Unless I am mistaken.

Lastly, the red blooded American in me that loves happy endings wants to see Dany and Jon get married and rule the Seven Kingdoms together!

I'm about 70% through Clash of Kings right now. Jaqen is awesome! What/who is he though? I thought he was Syrio when Arya described him after he changed his appearance when he helped her free the prisoners. I hope he returns.

Still no white walkers...

John's just discovered a cape and shards of obsidian which I presume is from the confrontation in the prologue of Game of Thrones.

I remember them being mentioned quite a few times by Varys, Tyrion and others. Tyrion said if he were rich enough he'd hire one to kill Cersei and King Robert wanted to hire on to kill Dany but couldn't afford it. If Kings and Lannisters can't afford to hire these guys, how do they get any work? O.o

*Edit: I love Tyrion & Varys, I wish they'd get their own spin-off series with Littlefinger. Maybe a sitcom or something.

I get the feeling that the merchant princes of the free cities are much, much richer than people in Westeros.

I get the same feeling. I get the feeling that Westeros is a shitty continent in general compared to the shits across the narrow sea. I dont understand why everyone doesnt just move and let the others do their thing on westeros.

Almost done with a Feast of Crows, looking forward to DWD. How would you rank the books so far? 3 > 1 > 2 > 4 so far for me. I'm hoping dwd is better then 4, I liked 4 just felt it wasn't as good as the other books.
