There will be at least 9. After the She-Wolves comes out they're going to put all four in a single book. More exciting then aSoIaF.

I feel like I've been living under a rock. What's all the fuss about the Martells? I've always imagined them to look like Spanish/Portuguese people with greasy hair and Roman skirts.

just started book 2. after reading the Maester Cressen prologue, I'm totally on-board with the Stannis-as-King-Of-Night theory. Cressen thinks something along the lines of "No, my Stannis, this isnt you. You were always hard but never cruel!" when Stannis backs up Selyse's command to make him wear Patchface's hat. Also, I have no idea how this affects the story, but it seems obvious now that Patchface belongs to the Drowned God.

There's theories out there that he is the drowned God incarnate.

that could be. also i forgot to mention: patchface knows about the dragons, i think. His song, "The shadows come to dance my lord" might refer to the spells that kill Rhaego and Mirri Maz Durr. Unless he keeps singing it, which could mean he's singing about the white walkers or stannis's shadowspawn. I dunno. I'm not very far in yet, I'm reading it MUCH more slowly this time.

    THE PRINCESS AND THE QUEEN,
    OR,
    THE BLACKS AND THE GREENS

Being A History of the Causes, Origins, Battles, and Betrayals
of that Most Tragic Bloodletting Known as the Dance of the Dragons,
as set down by Archmaester Gyldayn of the Citadel of Oldtown

    Spoiler: show
The Dance of the Dragons is the flowery name bestowed upon the savage internecine struggle for the Iron Throne of Westeros fought between two rival branches of House Targaryen during the years 129 to 131 AC. To characterize the dark, turbulent, bloody doings of this period as a “dance” strikes us as grotesquely inappropriate. No doubt the phrase originated with some singer. “The Dying of the Dragons” would be altogether more fitting, but tradition and time have burned the more poetic usage into the pages of history, so we must dance along with the rest.

There were two principal claimants to the Iron Throne upon the death of King Viserys I Targaryen: his daughter Rhaenyra, the only surviving child of his first marriage, and Aegon, his eldest son by his second wife. Amidst the chaos and carnage brought on by their rivalry, other would-be kings would stake claims as well, strutting about like mummers on a stage for a fortnight or a moon’s turn, only to fall as swiftly as they had arisen.
The rest can be found here.

jesus christ, the little dwarf woman who prophecies for the Brotherhood w/o Banners sees damn near every major event... long before it happens. Also, although I always suspected, she confirms that Euron hires a faceless man to kill Balon. "A man with no face waits on a swaying bridge with a drowned crow on his shoulder, with seaweed in its wings" or something close to that.

Also, pretty sure Jon Snow is Lord of Winterfell now. Robb legitimized him, absolved him of his vows. But he's free from those anyway, now, I think. Lived and died at his post, etc. I guess we don't really knowwhat it says, but there's that paper Robb had his lords sign before they got to the Twins. I wonder what will happen with that? Maybe Maege Mormont gets it out? How will that work with Manderly and Davos looking for Rickon, if it does legitimize Jon?

I think Jaime kills Cersei. Valonqar means "little brother" of which she has two.

That's what I'm hoping too. Although the prophecy says the handS of her little brother and I'm not sure if golden hand counts.

Dany is the other choice as she was "reborn" in the funeral pyre beneath the red comet which could be construed as a bleeding star + sacrificed her love for her weapons (lightbringer = dragons) just as Azor did. plus she actually, you know, woke dragons from stone.

but everyone assumes Azor Ahai = The Prince That was Promised so it must be one or the other, but it seems Martin has set both of them up to be the central figures in the war for the dawn so perhaps they are each one of the mythical figures
dany didn't wake dragons from stone, she birthed them from eggs

am I the only one that thinks there's too much in common between missandei and melisandre to be coincidence?
