Today sees a big update to George R.R. Martin's A World of Ice and Fire app, which is available on both iTunes and Google Play. The update includes 58 new character profiles and 164 new place descriptions — see some screenshots below for examples of what to expect. But the update also includes a free chapter from the eagerly awaited next book in the series, The Winds of Winter. Maybe its been a long time since I've speed read Dragons, but how far in to the future is this excerpt? It can't be THAT far in to the story..right?

What we do know from here is that, A) Victarion's forces land in Mereen on one side, and the other has Yunkish soldiers continuing their attack. B) There's an awesome Mereen defense system that requires defending. Was that introduced in Dragons? C) Second sons treachery, it is known. D) Viserion and Rhaegal are fucking the iron fleet up. But there's no mention of the red priest and the dragon horn

I knew how that chapter was going to end after the first paragraph, but damn, so good. I had actually forgotten about Raff being on her list since haven't read the books in awhile so had to look him up. Nice to see her in action taking care of her list "professionally". By the way, it's probably obvious and I'm forgetting, but who was the envoy and why was he there? Can't remember whose house had a chicken shield as sigil....Anyway, this is what, 4 excerpts now? Ashara (sp?), Theon, Tyrion and now "Mercy"...did I miss any?
