Patch 1.17 Notes (04/14/2011)

Flight controls in Aion were pretty terrible. Only with a g13 was I able to manuever the intended way. Server lag also made accurate positioning pretty much nonexistent. That's the only example I can think of though.

Ffxiv controls just need minor tweaks. How about an action bar that doesn't disappear when I kill a mob? Or one where I can see all three bars at once? Many of the controls issues are problems resulting from bad UI issues.

I don't think Aion was some amazing game, but the controls were pretty solid... light years better than XIV. I think if you were to ask, the majority of players who quit XIV would say the controls are god-fucking awful.

It looks like there is indeed another set of quests in the .dats regarding the easter event, I hope it'll all start to unwrap next week. It really is starting to feel like a countdown for 1.18.

I'm guessing the next patch will just add rest of those easter hats, got 0 hopes for the 1.17a

the ps3 controller default keys are retarded. Which is why you can set them to work exactly like FFXI ps keys. Which are fucking awesome.


*note: pc default keys for the controller on ffxi are also retarded, dunno why they changed them for pc versions on both games. ps2 version or bust.

i never played ffxi with a controller, so the default buttons for ffxiv haven't bothered me at all. i think the controller is great, especially for DoH and DoL. not so bad for DoM either. maybe not the best for DoW though.

I will admit it could be just if you played ffxi it will be awkward. But like I said you can change them to w/e you want so can set them like ffxi if you used to play it on controller. So ya I think it rather silly to say the controller in FFXIV sucks unless they think FFXI also sucked.

I play with a pseudo-FFXI controller scheme in FFXIV and I find it to be the best input method so far.

I think it's quite a win/win situation over-all. If the patch is small, it means they got back on schedule (since the content wasn't supposed to be pushed back to 1.17a in the first place). If it's "large", well, I wouldn't mind that either.

The keyboard layout bothered me at first but not so much after I realized it was pretty much just the FFXI compact layout.

Keyboard + mouse here, haven't really had any issues.
That and I can quickly mouse over to a video on the side etc or browse stuff while tanking/dpsing in leve's or running forever or crafting!

Also hoping 1.17a adds some new stuff, maybe recipes (although alst patch added alot elixirs I don't think anyone even spent time trying to discover them...?)

When I'm crafting I like to use my controller, for combat, however, I like using my G15 keyboard. I sometimes use the controller for combat if I don't feel like sitting up.

1.18 at the earliest... the patches with letters indicate that they are very small. At least so far they have.

If I remember correctly they said the 1.17a patch would include about 30% of the updates since they fell behind the time schedule due to the disaster. Not that I'm holding out for any larger changes but it should have a bit more than we've grown used to from the 'a'-patches.

Correct. It should be actually little less than half the size of 1.17, although I'm sure Yoshida's "30%" was a good guess at best.
