Official forums are bad, its full of spam and just buries anything useful under stupid stuff, all of which is like.. major projects of minor effect that will make a handful of people maybe happy, but of course ones its added to the game they will still complain about it.
Like I said in a post before SE should just not allow anyone that hasn't played 24 hours minimum in a 7 day time frame can't post, it would remove about 90% of the stupid stuff on official forums.
SE would code it bad and players would just idle to circumvent that.
I hope Yoshida starts emphasizing around now until the actual patch that they are rolling the overhauls in two parts, not all at once. Otherwise players may get the wrong idea.
Things just make more sense now when I look at his letters in hindsight.
Initially I thought that always one of the two monthly patches is regarded as the battle system revision/UI overhaul patch, but they meant all patches up until now as small-scale, system-oriented updates.Though the next version update will introduce a relatively small number of changes, preparations are already underway to bring further improvements in the near future via a number of smaller-scale patches, including the release of quests and system-side adjustments. At present, we intend for something new to be released about twice a month. Overhauls to the battle system and user interface will also be ongoing, which will make it easier for the players to enjoy the new quests and content being released. The small-scale, system-oriented updates that will be carried out can best be thought of as the necessary groundwork for the battle system revisions.
Here I thought that they simply meant the two monthly patches, but they were saying that the overhauls come in two parts, with first one in the Spring and the second sometime later. But after-the-fact adjustments and reworkings being what they are, it simply isn't possibly to fit everything that needs to be done in a single monthly patch. And so we're planning to release every big change over the course of two smaller-size updates. You'll be able to start seeing the changes to the battle system come spring, so please be patient just a bit longer!
So, with all this new info I'm a little bit excited (especially being that RIFT lost me pretty early on). Is the game still free to play?
It seems like most ppl are expecting the battle changes to begin next month... Though I wouldn't be surprised if it wasn't until early June. I'd expect them to start hyping the new combat soon though
Sweet, thanks for the info. Also, the forums are cluttered with garbage and cry babies (I've been one myself - not calling anybody out). For whatever reason, the forums are like a train wreck for me. I want to not look but I just can't help it.
I just don't get the hatin' on the forums. Granted, few threads have been popping up that stink of retard, but it is usually concentrated there. Otherwise if there's stoopid shit it's just normal ignorance that can be expected in any forum and usually people 'get it' after a small debate anyway.
I haven't been keeping up but are they still working on a more modern UI with drag and drop functions? I recall reading something about it but didn't see anything in the notes relating to it.
I don't even think the forums should be their main method of evaluating what players want. I suppose it is the best method of getting what current players want, but doing what the people who are playing now want is probably not going to help the game recover. They need to do some research, and quit being so out of touch from their customer base.
That said, cutting off the people who bought the game but aren't playing until it is worth their time to them is pretty stupid idea as well. I'm sure for every troll who is bitching about everything without any kind of input, there are just as many people asking for xp penalty on death and kings to camp. In other words, every player who has access to forums but not actively playing isn't a troll.
All they need to do is streamline all the BS down, speed up the game with chocobo's and up the pace of combat.
I don't want to play a god damn mini-game everytime i want to gather or craft, it is cute things like that being the reason why most of the playerbase bailed in October until the game gets fixed.
It sucks that the people still bitching about these "mini-games" are people who obviously don't gather or craft for the sake of anything other than skilling-up as quickly as possible. Once you're done skilling up, you're going wish there was some sort of mini-game there to allow intentional item-specific gathering or NQ/HQ/multiple crafting.
That's completely wrong. A large majority is avoiding gathering class like plague it's a fucking torture (so is selling stuff in market ward).
Yes, a minority of insane masochist (ie: you and Hyan) might actually enjoy it, but the rest of us would rather not waste any time on trivial mechanics that only slow the game.
The minigame is not fun. No one in their sane mind would play it if it wasnt for the candy at the end.
I actually enjoy the crafting/gathering minigames except for 2 gripes:
1. Mining/Botany need Grade 6 nodes and/or tweeks so the EXP falloff is slower on higher nodes
2. Crafting animations need to be shorter
Would you actually play it if you werent leveling something?
