While I don't entirely disagree with your sentiments, there have been some other games - Muramasa, Tatsunoko vs Capcom, Sin and Punishment, Madworld (though I disliked it), Epic Mickey, Monster Hunter, and several other RPGs out or on the way, just offhand, that might make the system worth owning for the enthusiast. Not to mention Virtual Console stuff.

Thing too is, writing off first-party stuff isn't great either. That's where a fair number of exclusives come from on any console - at least first-party published.

i'll say it right now, i was a little too fired up in my post, as i had just woken up (and i'm still hurting from last night) & some of the Wii-only titles (sin & punishment, etc) ARE great. and nintendo's first-party stuff is better than anyone else's - i'll be buying their consoles for the next 30 years if they keep making zeldas, so i'm not writing them off... it's just they seem so god damn obsessed with moving numbers, which is what they do, but it's because of (as mentioned earlier with the sr. citizen home joke) the mass appeal and pokemon. which is fine, but as a videogame fan i miss the old nintendo. there was a reason almost everyone i knew owned an SNES while i had a master system. now everyone owns a Wii because they like to play bowling. on Wii Sports. which came out when the system did. stop slacking on the hardware. (i own two Wiis btw, i'm just old and bitter)

edit: yeah me saying a company being obsessed with moving numbers was a stupid thing to say. sorry. obviously they are.

the problem with the casual gamer is there is no need for them to update to the next gen. they can already bowl all they want, why do they need to drop another $200-300 just to do it in high def?

Skies of Arcadia was a port. Game was originally on the Dreamcast, though the GC version might be easier to find. Technically the GC was the original platform for RE:4 (plus RE remakes), Metroid Prime (though trilogy is on the Wii), and some of the other first party games were decent.

General point more being that nearly any system will only have a relatively short list of truly notable games. For at least some of us, that's enough to justify owning the hardware.

NFL 2K - still the most impactful football game since Tecmo Super Bowl. Dreamcast will forever live in me simply for that game; not even mentioning MVC and the other goodies.

When I think of nintendo + HD graphics, that episode of robot chicken comes to mind. With Yoshi in raccoon city and Mario bros vice city. I think I read somewhere GTA V is already in development for it. I'm more interested in seeing a Metroid game in HD. Star Fox would be nice.

I have never had any controller from any system fail me whatsoever. At most, extreme usage smooths out the plastic and/or rubs off a letter. Do kids still throw their controllers when they get killed or something?

Yeah, controllers usually last more or less forever. With 50+ controllers for various systems over the last 15 years, i have had one single n64 controller fail in any way (the joystick was worn out to the point of uselessness). One of my 4 guitars is not doing so hot, but it still works, and i could easily fix it if i cared to.
