    To summarize:

All 3 systems have had issues this generation

Wii-sold tons out the gate gimmicks/shovelware/lack of tech power has caught up to them.
PS3-Late to the party, priced to high for the average gamer, eventual price drops & bluray persevered and moved units.
360-First out the gate, next gen specs, horrible defect rate, eventual repairs and warranty extensions + correcting issues kept it moving.

Where does that put them today? The PS3? AFK banging hot chicks, The BroBox? Playin with bitches titties in da club, the Wii? Riding bitch between two fat chicks on the way to a Jonas Brothers Concert.

    INTERPRET WHAT YOU WILL.

    I can see it now;
HD GRAPHICS WHICH ARE MORE POWERFUL THAN THE PS3

    Actuality;
HD GRAPHICS WHICH ARE MORE POWERFUL THAN THE NGP!

I think if they do what they are saying about the controller, we'll be sitting there purchasing $70-100 controllers. Unless it is some sort of add on, which they tack on for $60 or something.

I got the Wii at launch (poor choice) and I don't plan to make the same one again. I am however thinking of getting the NGP, given it does let you play your PSN purchased content (PSP/PS1 games) etc.

Microsoft/Sony are still building onto their current consoles. Economies still play a role in this as well, which is also an attributing factor as to why the 3DS is doing poorly as well. We probably wont see new consoles at least till 2014-2015.
Not all though, Ubisoft for example have been pushing for new consoles recently as they said it aids in new IP development. I really doubt Sony and Microsofts consoles will hit that late. 2013 latest I would throw a guess at. The longer they wait, the more people that actually give a shit about IQ and performance will just move on over to PC gaming as the technological gap gets bigger and bigger.

This is bullshit PR stuff though. Consoles have hit their ceiling a while ago, now it is just sacrificing frame-rate and resolution for prettier visuals. Performance for the pretty is not the way to go. Honestly, you're not going to find better looking/performing games than Uncharted 2 and God of War 3 (You can say what you want about the game, but you have to admit that technically it was impressive) for example. You can only get so much power out of 5-6 year old hardware as we've already seen with recent games. Sub-HD and Sub-30 FPS games have sadly became the norm on consoles.

A console which draws 15 watts of power on average in games is obviously going to fail less in comparison to the HD consoles which drew close to 200w. While not an excuse for MS's original 360 failure rate as that was down to rushing the console out before competitors and lack of quality assurance, it's why the PS3 and 360 will always fail more than the Wii. If people are okay with Wii visuals and don't much care for HD then that's fine, but don't expect everyone else and the rest of the industry to follow suit.

Does not sound appealing. But I'll be at E3 to see first hand. Seems like they're rushing this console announcement to take away from NGP news at E3.

If that's true, those'll be some hella expensive controllers with short battery lives.

I am not poor, I just dont see the use of a Wii and PS3 yet. Xbox360 is entertaining me perfectly, why should I get a Wii? So i can dust of more things every week? Dont get me wrong, I dont hate nintendo, I still get the Nintendo DS (now got 3DS), because they are supported/flooded with good games (well not so much the 3DS but it launched recently). A wii just doesnt offer much to me, never was a big fan of those move controls, hence the fact why I didnt get kinect yet. I just dont like it. Its not a matter of money, but why should I buy something I know I wont use?

You got a 3DS but passed up the Wii. Does not compute.

Have you ever even looked up one title for reviews on the Wii besides Babyz/Wii Sports?

In all honesty I can probably count all the wii games (I find) worth playing on 1 hand.... maybe 2 hands if you count a few short games. There has been a long ass gap in anything worth playing, and it has been few and far between.

That said, You can get a wii for next to nothing (sub $100) if you look around for one. I personally have all 3 systems, but I enjoy my PS3>XBOX>Wii in that order, however I have only paid for live for 3 months, upon which I said goodbye to the little kids and never paid for it again. Almost all games worth playing online are available on the ps3 as well (multiplatform) and it does not cost me anything. Throw in less people have mic's and you have a mostly playable online experience.

I'll pass. This wil leither make them stupidly overpriced for those controllers, or another stupid gimmick.

And talking about this generation of consoles; wasn't Sony/MSs stance that they will last about 10 years? Still got a few years in them yet.

    Lots of shit here

    Controller
    - 6" touchscreen, not HD, not multitouch
    - D-Pad, L, R, two triggers, others
    - 'Front-facing camera'
    - A sensor roughly analagous to the Wii sensor bar is incorporated in the controller - i.e. some kind of IR beacons/transmitters. Purpose isn't clear.

    Specs
    - Custom triple-core PowerPC
    - AMD/ATI GPU. 'Probably' derived from R700 series.
    - RAM unknown
    - Developer quotes: graphics capabilities "roughly equal to those of the Xbox 360", performance "over the Xbox 360, but just a notch"

    Misc
    - One other 'huge surprise' about the system
    Seems like mostly:

    - Sensor bar being built into the controller is a mistranslation. It seems there will be one very similar to the Wii.
    - Backwards compatibility is completely unconfirmed, but the site speculates it will be possible because of the similar architecture.
    - Blu-ray is not confirmed and hasn't been brought up by their sources, which seems odd to me as that is kind of a big point to notice.
    - Just a "notch above Xbox 360" and not "significantly more powerful" as reported by IGN.
Ubisoft studios have had development kits “for months”, motion-sensing “better than Move”; announcement at E3?

Sources have this morning confirmed reports that Nintendo has a successor to the Wii in the works, telling us that thirdparty studios including those of Ubisoft, Activision and Electronic Arts have had development units of the new hardware for months.

They have also claimed that the system retains motion control, with capabilities that are “better than Move”, meaning that they boast higher fidelity.
We do not yet have word on whether or not its motion-controlled solution introduces a camera.
Oh god, please don't make the motion bullshit the standard control interface and at least give people a proper choice. Also, equal graphics and performance to the 360? You'd think they'd try to at least one-up 6 year old hardware. Definitely starting to sound like Wii2 atm. With these specs, it looks like they're aiming for a lower price launch like the Wii, I'd guess that this will launch at around $299.

All the Nintendo consoles were best used when you had people to play with except maybe Virtual Boy and the first few generations of the Game Boy because trying to find people with a link cable was a bitch. Although a lot of great games came out in the SNES days, my most vivid memories were playing games with my friends (lol Japanese cliche). Then again, I was lucky enough to live in a large apartment building and be the kid that always had the latest systems.

I stopped enjoying my Wii once I stopped having people to play with however it was less of a pain in the ass to get chicks to play on the Wii than on an X-Box 360 or the PS3.

How many of you guys constantly had people over playing with you? Honest question out of curiosity. I've never thought of Nintendo of anything more than a party system especially from N64 to beyond.

Yes I did, but there is only 2-3 games I woudl be really interested in on the Wii. That said the 3DS has an enourmus choice of games, if you count the DS (which I have) to it. And there is/was allways some game that interested me on the DS (Castlevania, MegaMan Advent, Zelda, Mario etc), so thats why I bought a 3DS.

Of course they still need to pander to the soccer moms and the old people that never played a video game in their lives. They know how to target their audience, I'll say that much. They said at the start they were after those who've never played a video game before (the elderly, middle-aged women, etc.) and they nailed it.

I never had a Wii myself but my mom got one for mother's day a few months after they came out. The last few months before she passed away though we mostly used it for Netflix. Pretty much everyone in our family has a DS though I haven't touched mine in several months. The Wii still sits in our TV room turned on only when my sister and her kids visit.

Yeah I definitely agree Nintendo's hardware has always been best used as "party systems". I never had friends over much so that was pretty much moot. Honestly I haven't thoroughly enjoyed a Nintendo console since the SNES.

This talk about having a screen on the controller makes me think they had a bunch of ideas for the Gamecube-Gameboy Advanced linkage that never panned out (cause no one wanted to buy 4 Advances..) and now they're trying to incorporate them.. Obviously not the case, but it's definitely what came to mind first >.>

Great, so as expected, another gimmicky console with subpar graphic qualities and STILL using mandatory motion sensor controls? No thanks Nintendo, stop making consoles now.

checked out the site that the NeoGaf thread is linking to as its source; its some french technology website. No idea what their credibility is. So much can be lost in translation or taken out of context.

This is how rumors get started.

Taking everything that is being said here with a huge grain of salt from now on, until Nintendo has some formal announcements or more western developers step up with comments.

There's multiple sources about the motion sensor shit, and it's been confirmed that the major studios have had development kits for months now. They have rough specs out also, and apparently it is very similar to the Xbox 360 with minimum of 512mb of RAM. On another slightly off topic note, Crytek said in an interview that they would like to see the next gen consoles have 8GB RAM as the low ram in current consoles is the biggest crippling factor in visual quality.
