Yeah, probably. Your CPU is great (for a laptop) but that GPU is really holding you back, it's entry level at best. Actually everything is great except for the GPU.
I have no idea if your GPU is replaceable, but if it is and you want good gaming performance you'll want to look at something like a 6870m/6970m, or the nVidia equivalent like a GTX 560m.

Bleh, good to know. I didn't research the GPU as much as I should've, didn't realize there are 4XXXM line cards better than the 6490M.

I'm an idiot too, the 6770M was only $25 more when I customized, no idea how I missed that. Fuck.

Fuck it. I found an even better coupon online so I ordered the same machine but with the 6770M. I'll return mine 100% free in a week or two (no shipping or restocking within 21 days) and save $50 even with the better video card because of the superior coupon. Pwn.

6770m is definitely worth the $25 added, so yeah you did the right thing. It's a decent low-mid range card, has 480 pipelines over the 6490's 160 and gets over double the benchmark score in 3D Vantage. Just out of curiosity were there any higher options? A 6870m would turn it in to a pretty capable gaming laptop.

The comprehensive chart i saw put it in the lower end of the "high" category (semantics of course). It was the best option on this model, and im pretty stoked that itll lower my total cost, just hope i get it before i have to ship the other one back.

It said it can play nearly everything they tested it with at High settings getting fps 30+ (all but one game they tested, one was 29fps). Starcraft 2 at 55fps, compared to 25fps on high for the card i currently have.

Pretty great site for this stuff. Thank you for pointing out the bottleneck in my current system Shojin.

No prob, I always forget laptop resolutions are a lot lower as I don't use them. You should be good. Don't expect FFXIV to run smoothly on high though, that piece of shit runs pretty badly even on my PC. Also, buy a wired Xbox 360 gamepad and an optical/laser mouse so you won't have to use the shitty touchpad.
