Errr...surprised there's no info on this as of yet. So far from what I've gathered from alts:
- Have to be rank 5 to start - thankfully My Very First Adventure takes you to 5 in 3 mobs
- Chance at a particular egg seems to be completely random - I've gotten 5 archon, 4 lightning, 3 earth, 5 water so far
- Even after you complete a quest for the regular hat the NPC will still give you eggs at whatever the cooldown interval is - cooldown interval does not seem to be related to anima
- When you start the quest there is a cooldown as to when you can pick up an egg quest again (so you can't abandon quest and pick up immediately for infinite eggs, cooldown applies globally), but this cooldown is shorter than the period where the NPC will hand you another egg
- If it doesn't give you an egg just abandon the quest and attempt to start it over and see if the shorter cooldown on restarting the quest yields an egg

Hard to pinpoint anything because some people are saying that they are able to abandon and restart right away a couple of times for 2-3 eggs and some people are saying that they are able to pick up a new egg every 6 hours or so when I waited ~10 hours for mine (all within one anima cycle so it wasn't the anima regeneration that triggered it.) I'm guessing the availability of other hats will be triggered by a certain number of egg sets being turned in, or it could also be unlocked by time. Guess we'll have to wait and see.

So turning the same combination in after you've got the initial Pristine Egg Cap yields the same cap? or nothing?

I think each city's quest has a different combo and a different hat. I think.

Uldah says the same thing, for a Pristine Egg cap. Doubt the cities are any different.

Got my Pristine Egg Cap, not sure if there's another set of quests for it for the R20/30/40 ones or not. But since there's 3 other helmets and Archon Eggs and unused elemental eggs I'd assume there has got to be another quest.

EDIT: Okay I think I got it figured out, once you complete an egg you can flag another quest in another city. I just grabbed a water egg from Ul'Dah then teleported to Grid, the person in the egg helm has the ! mark over their head, but got the "You can't obtain an Archon egg" message, so need to wait til anima regeneration.

EDIT 2: Okay scratch that, people confirmed on the official forums they started the other quests and were asked for the same eggs.

Maybe the other hats are crafted from the pristine hats? They are blank eggs after all, just waiting to be colored!

I just noticed this. If you log out while wearing the egg hat, your profile photo on the lodestone changes.

Well, I completed the quest in Ul'dah yesterday and received my Pristine Egg Cap.

I got another set of eggs and went to Gridania, flagged that quest and the NPC refuses take my eggs. He specifically says he's not supposed to take eggs from someone who's already received their Pristine Egg Cap. The quest remains active in my Journal.

It sounds like something's a little off here. I don't know what else I could do besides toss my cap and try again but I don't think I'm going to be doing that. It might make a little sense if the Colorful/Vibrant/Midnight/Chocobo Egg Caps were crafted and used up by the recipe but they have been so open about event-related recipes before and there's not even a hint to such a thing this time around.

It is most certainly time-related, even with the tiny community we would have already figured out the answer to the remaining caps. We shouldn't even be aware of them right now "officially speaking" lol.

Still, even if we shouldn't officially know there are four other egg-related caps, the fact is there is currently 3 sidequests, (the same one for each city), and at this moment you can only complete one, and the other two are impossible to finish. Which seems weird considering there are no hints to anything changing with time outside of this "hatching hour" at the supposed end of the event. We still have a month to go, but I'm going to take a wild guess that there will either be released recipes or updates to the sidequest to offer different element eggs and accept different combinations... somehow.

Kinda' writing this here instead of looking for a piece of paper to put it on... I think it's in order of rank 10>20>30>40 or something.

Pristine Egg Cap (r10) = Archon + Water + Lightning + Earth
Vibrant Egg Cap (r20) = Colored + Fire + Wind + Ice
Brilliant Egg Cap (r30) = Painted + Astral + Fire + Wind + Lightning
Midnight Egg Cap (r40) = Darkened + Umbral + Earth + Ice + Water
Chocobo Egg Cap (r15) = Earth + Lightning + Ice + Fire + Water + Wind + Umbral + Astral (bring these to the Spriggan NPCs hiding in Cassiopeia Hollow/Nanawa Mines/Mun-Tuy Cellars depending on which city your quest is active in)

To get all hats, you will have to collect a total of:
1 of each plain/colored/painted/darkened eggs (all of which are unique)
2 of each astral/umbral eggs
3 of each earth/ice/water/fire/wind/lightning eggs

Earth/Ice/Water/Wind/Fire/Lightning eggs are dropped by all event-related Spriggans.

Archon eggs are dropped by Shuffling Spriggans in Skull Valley/Drybone/Emerald Moss.

Colored eggs are dropped by Scrambling Spriggans in Bloodshore/Horizon's Edge/Tranquil Paths.

Painted and Astral eggs are dropped by Scurrying Spriggans in Cedarwood/Nophica's Wells/Humblehearth.

Darkened and Umbral eggs are dropped by Sprinting Spriggans in Mistbeard Cove/Copperbell Mines/Tam-Tara Deepcroft.

(All of the eggs are very common drops. The only ones that may take a handful of kills to get are Umbral and Astral eggs.)

The Spriggans can be annoying to fight as a non-ranged class because they like to run around and away from you while hitting you with their ranged ability each time they stop. They can also be very dangerous to pull or even reach in places like Mistbeard/Nanawa/Tam-Tara. They do appear to have a rather large roaming area so if you do pull one, you can drag it quite far before engaging safely as it will move around a lot.

The Spriggan NPC in Cassiopeia Hollow appears to be the easiest one to reach although it may involve pulling and/or killing the pair of Revenants that spawn next to it. The other NPCs require about a Rank-30 to fight through to them.

chocobo egg cap is 1 of every elemental egg. in muy-tuy, copper bell, and its either cass or mistbeard, there is a Spriggan that offers a quest for this.

the Spriggans in each city tell you in vague terms where you can find more of their kind in the region (to kill and take their eggs). I know copper bell and muy-tuy cellars are one place. there are caves as well. each of the areas supplies a unique archon egg for each hat. they dont all provide the same archon eggs. so you have to go to each area if you want to get every archon egg for all the hats.

there is a post on the lodestone forums about the event and a poster provides screenshots of Thanalan's maps on where to go. Each region has areas for all the hats.
