I think the problem is that XIV has lost the interest of players as a general. People don't obsess over an FF title the way they used to anymore.
If by miracle, the game does manage to get back on it's feet, they will have to start charging, or take out cash shops at the very least, seeing as how the game will not be free forever. Half the people that will be re-interested in the game will then just turn right back around, due to the disgusting impression XIV has previously left.
Unfortunately we need to invest so much time and money into XIV right now that we are complete fools for being interested in seeing the direction it's headed from here. There's just so much to lose if it doesn't pick up. All that time it took to read patch notes and producer's letters, all gone to waste. I... I can't imagine what I would do if that was the case.
I believe that was a smart remark in XIV's defense. Well, there are much more successful and by public opinion, better F2P MMORPGs than XIV. You're also assuming XIV will be free forever, or at the very least, intentionally meant to be free?
No one said the game won't be fixed. If the game doesn't get fixed, the entire team might as well quit their jobs, due to being terrible and creating the laughing stock of MMORPGs. Also, don't be naive enough to believe there are many like you that plan on waiting out the disaster that is XIV today. Look up your server population and see for yourself. Oh wait.
GW2 will probably steal half the active XIV subscribers if this goes on for much longer, seeing as how that's a real F2P MMORPG.
Don't worry, I respect everyone's opinion here and I myself hope the game is fixed sooner than later. It just pains me to see how low new-gen FF titles are falling.
I'm pretty sure if it got that bad, SE would close it down, and redevelop it and release it when it's up to par. SE is paying for it all, it's not like they have investors to deal with, meanwhile they can remake FFVII for PS3/PC to make a quick buck if they are hurting that bad.
Missed this thread lol
Might pick up TERA when it NA Beta hits/finishes and goes live but not sure, been out of the MMO game for a while so might just keep it that way lol.
Also, lol@ FFXIV "once it's fixed", GL waiting a year :D
I'm not entirely sure what to say to people who think they can accurately predict a game's odds of success at all.
^ This. But this applies to people who are cheering for and against any game for that matter.
I'm almost sure FFXIV will bounce back, I just know it's not going to be any time soon lol.
BTW I barely played FFXIV when it dropped (made me fucking sick lol) but I have some friends that play it still even, so I do have somewhat of an opinion other then hearsay.
Trying to predict the game's future is completely irrelevant to anything. If it never picks up, not much lost (except the time it took to read the patch notes/reviews/community reaction!!!1). If it does, I play it. That's the effort it takes from me or anyone to 'wait'. It doesn't involve buying or playing the game in it's current state, it involves just living my life. The stakes are high indeed.
The important part is that it will never pick up, and that Hyan will be wrong again.
^I like that guy.
It kind of reminds me of the whole EQ1/EQ2 incident, they launched EQ2 and there was a huge craze for a while but it just wasn't as good (since they had been working on making EQ1 so great for so long), so everyone just moved back to EQ1. I was one of those people so I can attest to it. EQ1 is still alive and getting expansions but I quit it long ago lol.
Really depends how they'll handle the PS3 release if it'll pick up or not. I'm expecting SE to basically hold out until the game is fixed up to the point where it can have an expansion pack, and then release it on PS3 (and re-release on PC) with the core game + expansion, kinda like how FFXI came out in NA with RoZ included.
I can't even be "wrong" this time, which is what makes it hilarious.
Kaylia has already spent more time on that game than I have. I can't say with a straight face that with that taken into account, I could "lose" under any circumstances, haha.
