If you're looking for a borderlands type mmo experience, just wait for D3.

People really didn't get what I was talking about. All I meant it being like Borderlands is that it's a class based game without any kind of straight up healer. That's all. Also, it straight up has second wind (You die. You kill something. Huzzah you're alive again!).

I'm pretty tired of the healer/tank/dps archtype of MMOs. There's no real reason not to break away from it, other then that EQ and WoW had so much success with it. But before EQ was ever around, MMORPGs never had any strict tank/healer/dps archtypes. People grouped up and killed shit in other ways (UO and Lineage). People are just so used to that line of thinking with MMOs that the concept of stepping away from it totally confuses them. But it's been done before, and it works just fine.

There was one strategy before that, and it was to zerg the crap out of everything (with some bouncing). It didnt offer a lot of variety.

I havent seen many big fights in UO, so make that 2 strategies if you prefer. Either way, I don't think large scale battles were very interesting back then compared to the one we see now. They felt more epic because the fights werent a daily occurence, and high level character were much rarer, but I wouldnt consider that a good thing.

And that's the biggest complaint about FFXIV's job system. It's not cookie-cutter enough. Sigh.

I'm 100% surprised that FFXIV has as many votes as it does to be honest.

Then I remember that this board was mainly based around Final Fantasy once upon a time.

This isn't even the only upcoming game anticipation chart that shows XIV ranked high.

Wonder how many subs drop off when the game isn't free anymore.

why don't they just pull XIV down and re-release it APB: reloaded style?

Because SE (and Japan in general) will not admit defeat.

I admire it, but only as far as the non-defeatist attitute goes. Can they actually turn something around? They did it with their cities, but stubborn ol' SE's XIV revival remains to be seen.

people aren't complaining about that.. people are complaining that the combat sucks ass and classes are so diverse that there is no defining "class"

They should shut XIV down and re-release it like a year from now w/it being fixed.. and those who originally bought it just need to update thee game. Everything about the game sucks, down to the horrible horrible payment system that will once-upon-a-time be implemented

I won't get into what I think of it, or where I think it'll go, other than I was surprised so many here picked it. I guess it says a lot about the lack of choices, though, eh? Though whatever someone likes.. more power to 'em.

Come on, that's nothing away from you if it's up. Some like to see it change firsthand.

Golden Dragon and Balrog were the bigger fights I remember.

But yeah, obviously there weren't a ton of epic fights in those games. UO and Lineage are literally 15 years old, and had like 1/100th of the budget current game companies do now. WTF do you expect? lol

Anyway, your argument doesn't really matter. GW2 is already doing away with the standardized MMO archtype, and it's refreshing. I'm excited about it. Originally Warhammer Online made the same claims about not having strict healer classes too, but they ended up doing just that. So I'm hoping ArenaNet stick to their guns.

I'm the extreme minority with waiting to see the actual release of Wakfu? :S

I've been in the beta since the end of January, and aside from when a lot of the players just got bored and dropped between beta builds (that's what happens when you have 90% of the world closed off and only 3 of 14 classes playable...), I've been having a blast with it. The latest build added 2 more classes (bringing the grand total to 6 of 14 now), and they seem to be pretty fun and decent evolutions from their Dofus origin.

The only downside at the moment is Ankama borked the exp formula. They admitted as much on the French forums though, and are planning to fix it next week.

For those unaware, it looks to be almost a total sandbox RTS MMO. 3 alignments, world pvp, a political system with elected and appointed officials, there's more, but I haven't had coffee yet to make my brain work. The international server is in open beta as of next week I believe, but there's no estimated date as of yet for when the north American server will go into open beta. :S

I think I got sucked into enjoying this game because it's not like WoW or Rift or any of the other MMOs I played and quit...
