[dev1008] Fishing Improvements on the Way
The forthcoming version update will see two refinements aimed at anglers of Vana'diel: more informative fishing messages and the introduction of a "critical bite" system.

• New fishing messages
  Messages displayed upon getting a bite will indicate the size and type of your potential catch as follows:
  Small fish: "Something caught the hook!"
  Large fish: "Something caught the hook!!!"
  Non-fish targets: "You feel something pulling at your line."
  Monsters: "Something clamps onto your line ferociously!"
• Critical bites
  Players with fishing skill surpassing the rank of their target will register a critical bite, and be rewarded with advance knowledge as to the identity of their prey.
  
  Ex.: (When scoring a critical bite against a black sole)
  "Something caught the hook!
  Your keen angler's senses tell you that this is the pull of a black sole!"
  Scoring a critical bite will also slow the target's stamina recovery in the event of improper reeling, allowing players to reel in lower-level fish with greater ease.

We will also be implementing the next stage of efficiency tweaks and refinements to the fishing system code itself, a process which began last patch with the goal of allowing for a greater range of adjustments in the future. We will continue to monitor game balance and adjust the system as necessary.

Furthermore, we intend to preserve the timing-dependent minigame nature of the fishing system, and make balance tweaks and adjustments accordingly. We are also aware of the significant outstanding issues with RMT abuse and difficulty imbalances related to players’ system environments, and will continue working towards a viable solution. Thank you for your patience and understanding.

As a fisherman, I'm excited for these changes, especially those related to RMT. But if the legitimately find a way to get rid of the fishbots and RMT fishers, the price of sushi and shihei is going to go though the roof. 400k for a stack of 12 toolbags. Good times.

I was kinda hoping for something not target at 0.03% of the Community

Though, I do enjoy fishing, It was just slow, Maybe i'll take it back up. I have been wanting to do a lot of those Inside-The-Belly quest Fish, A lot of things i wanted for low-level jobs come from those lol..

So i can see a silver lining in this. Start small, work your way up. got a while to go until the May V.U is here ^^

Definitely a niche' improvement to those that actually fish in this game. At least this goes to show that they are improving areas across the board.

I haven't fished in a long as hell time. Too time consuming for too little gil :/ Well you can get enough to get by for food and general expendables but not for making big bucks anymore ><

But these updates sound rather nice for those that still do fish.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but it's only thanks to bots that make it unprofitable no? Last I recall the fishing fatigue/nerfed NPC prices were thanks to bot abuse.

30 seconds looking at latest AH prices on ffxiah shows that fishing isn't even remotely close to dead yet, sure it isn't a license to shit golden bricks anymore, but it's far from a waste of time.

For a fisher who's about to come back to ffxi this is very interesting news. Too bad most of the fish I've always targeted are generally pretty obvious about what they are, however for people trying to grind the last 50+ levels of fishing I supposed this new ability to target fish without stamina fishing should dramatically help speed up the grind.

But no seriously SE, give us something kick ass from matsya already...

Inb4 it's a new lv 99 quest where you need to gut several hundred matsyas and the other 3 new legendary serpent fish to get the mats to make a legendary lure to combo with ebisu.

Fixed that for you. Considering you were caught and temp-banned for it, don't pretend your not part of the problem.

If they perma-banned EVERYONE who botted, RMT and cheaters like you, fishing would become insanely profitable because very few people have the patience to actually do it legitimately.

Wasn't temp banned bro. And I learned my lesson. Now the third party stuff I use is for parsing and math, as you can see in the fishing thread. Fishing has gotten so easy as of late with all the new rings and moglification and etc there's little point to it. Even the most difficult of fish pose little problem to any decent fisher using both rings.

Their are two types of profit fishing in 11 atm, the high npc selling fish that you need ebisu and a bunch of other stuff to get, and little profit fish anyone can target.

The RMTs go for the latter because there's no way they could ever get their hands on all the stuff to profit fish the new dragon fish by the time they end up banned for RMTing.

And any fisher who has all the stuff to do the dragon fish doesnt need to bother botting as #1 its pretty easy and #2 you hit fatigue so fast you would never need to do something like run it overnight or let it sit.

Now I know there are 1-2 people sparsly that use programs to help them ID fish and stuff but that's just to prevent risk. As a dancer I just use spectral jig til I know the stamina of the fish Im targetting and then it's easy as pie to tell it apart from a monster.

Yes I once fish botted. Yes I got caught. Yes I got GMed. No the GM didn't give a fuck and never even messaged me. I never got banned, jailed, temp banned or anything. The GM never even spoke to me or showed up. But that was still enough for me to check myself and realize that I was using a program to play my videogame for me for nothing, and just how sad that really was in retrospect. So I stopped with that and put my skills in programming to better use.
