In case the point hasn't been made clear:
If you prefer the old FFXI to the new FFXI, everybody who still plays is glad you quit and nobody misses you or gives a shit about your "accomplishments."

Aspid, the new Almighty Apkallu.
It's also possible SE may lower the amount of seals needed for the fights....
KS99 is KS99... seriously?
Incoming Tiamat popped via Ouryu drop? (or whatever is considered equivalent)
after a nap and reading this again.
as much as I don't really see the necessity of these changes now, i must applaud SE for making this change to the system anyway. I think for the most part they're really trying to do their best to save old content and this could be one way of doing so for land kings. By making them non-camp, they're opening the content up to people who have always wanted to do it but are never online during window or whatnot.
Players who have done it, they can complain a fair bit since they've been there and done that, but what this really does is make it more accessible to those who havent. And for people who don't have BB items, this update will essentially make you go through the other options you have available before HQ kings. People seem to forget KS99s also drop these items.
I get the feeling the trigs for NQs will be like 1-3 per orb, and are probably no EX, so it might open up a market for trigs and one new purpose for burning KS for those who don't really want anything from land kings anymore.
Also, although it does seem pointless from our side, this might be another starting point for a new branch of equipment improvements. We're aware firstly, that they don't intend for Empyrean AF to be the only EQ options at the final level cap and that they want a variety of options like with 75 gear.. and secondly, that methods to augment existing RA/EX gear (like that Byakko's Haidate synergy pic) are on the cards. So in light of that, they might find ways to bring the classic 70-75 armor sets up to a comparable level - and if done well, it should revive interest in old areas.. and this fix would alleviate camping problems.
to the comment about hardcore HNM hunting. I agree in some points, but never thought land kings were much of a shining example of this. Window claim spamming is kinda lame. The stretched out CoP and ToAU ones were slightly better only if you have a mule watching but I get the idea they were never meant to be camped that way. My personal favorite for HNM rushhour was DI and SW, mainly because it was more a rush to find and claim, rather than to spam a command.
Anyone save that picture we as the community sent to Sundi suggesting this years ago? My google-fu and forum search-fu have failed me in locating it.
Think this will cause a surge of Horns of War for D-rings?
D-ring was approximately a ~5% drop off KB, right? 1 KB every week on average, maybe 2-3 D-rings per year per server average?
Didn't someone posted this same exact idea of how to pop these NMs and remove their timers like two to three years ago???

It was a suggestion by a poster on BG Forums on how to change the HNMs/HQ HNMs to forced pop. And, the pop items would be obtained by KS99s.
Whoever suggested it, it seems SE actually fucking listened to his ideas and took it to heart.
If you guys are mad about it, track the post down and the poster. You can blame him for suggesting this. Since, you know... years ago many of us wanted SE to update/change the way HNMs would spawn and didn't like how we had to wait on them.
You get what you asked for.
omg kings are gonna be obselete now!
IM CRYING GUYS! THE DAY HAS FINALLY COME!
WHO WOULDA THOUGHT WE'D EVER SEE THIS DAY COMING!
THE DAY KINGS ARE OBSELETE! GURL.. I CAN'T..
God damn it, Bercus!
I'm worried that they'll try to keep the HQ rare by giving the pop item for it an abysmal drop rate. Kill 10 KS99, get 10-20 NQ pops, and end up with 0-1 HQ pops on average. If they screw it up like that, people will be complaining for a switch back to the old system.
Hopefully they don't screw it up, and have the drop rate 25% or higher.
Let me take a look back through the "what you'd like to see in 2011 thread". Now that it's mentioned it sounds REALLY familiar.
the worst part about all of this is having to walk to Balga's Dais and Dragon's Aery
