The trick is to not explore. I set myself up in the middle of a larger room near the roof of a cave with some dirt 3 spaces up my back so nothing could hit me from behind. Then I just held down the attack key with my Muramasa. I would periodically jump down and get my money and whatnot from the kills.

My mushroom farm is going slow. The blue junk spreads soooooooooo slowly.

    Edit: Also...

There is a big room that I left open at the bottom because I was hoping that some of those big mushrooms would eventually grow like they have naturally in the mushroom caves but I doubt that will happen. Buuuut, I'll leave it there for a while and see if it does it anyways.

I was mostly hunting for shrines but they all eluded me.

How deep is that mushroom farm? That only looks like the first strata...

Glowing mushrooms can grow fairly close to the surface. Mine is at about the point where the music changes from overworld music to the underground music (I think about -100 on a depth meter?) and glowing mushrooms grow fine.

Yeah, I found a natural mushroom area that was at the same depth and decided to test weather it would grow there. It spread so then I started digging and building like mad. Its actually really really close to the second strata which is why it probably works.

Also, bone serpents can suck a dick too. I find ball o hurt is fun to play with, so trying for Sunfury. The hardest is actually getting the serpents to spawn (I've killed sooooooo many imps).

I was constantly under siege by Bone Serpents when I finally established a decent Hellstone mining situation. If you bridge over some magma pits, when they finally spawn, they'll have shit for acceleration when they come up under you and be pretty easy to kill.

Killing them isn't the problem. They spawn 1 or 2 for every 10 imps it seems. I've got a few bridges, and I've got a few pits where I mined my hellstone; no luck so far on the drop (but I do have a few of those useless fire flower things).

I guess if you're there to do something other than farm Bone Serpents, you'll come across more than you would care to...

Can you fill buckets with magma? I really want a small pool of it in my basement to throw shit items into because I can't stand how trash items you toss stay there forever and I end up picking up random sand, mushrooms, rotten meat, etc. that I have tossed eons ago.

edit: I guess you can, awesome.

Yes. And you can also make lava moats in front of your doors to let zombies and goblins die in. :D Fill a few buckets up, drop in a 2x2 square, and build a "bridge" across it. During an attack just remove the "drawbridge". Splat.

Also, I end up selling trash items to the merchant to make them go away. I didn't know lava made them poof.

I wish Spikes hurt enemies, at least then you would be able to collect some loot after a Goblin Invasion/Blood Moon with some strategically placed spike pits.

I am definitely enjoying this game more now that I can collect the materials I want/need at any time for working on an awesome fortress that I have been putting off. I got my Glowing Mushroom farm started... I'll eventually have some underground paths leading to the Underground Jungle, etc.

What happens to NPCs if you start disassembling their rooms' minimum requirements in an effort to redesign? My initial 9-story hotel/tower is becoming annoying to navigate.

I think they take a little while to wander off and find a new home. I accidentally blew one guy's house up with dynamite and he still stuck around for a few while I rebuilt around him.

You don't need spikes... just put the lava in front of your door and stand there. All the loot will fly to you before being incinerated. If you're hard up for money I don't see any reason you couldn't encase yourself in a little box with lava on both sides, and then afk for a few days. You may want to do it where the skeletons and mother slimes are; the shitty slimes on the surface drop approximately jack shit.

I just like the look of spikes and wish they had some sort of use at least... then it would allow you to walk into an area below the pit to collect whenever you felt like it.

I had only visited my dungeon once... is it normal to constantly be swarmed by like 5~6 Angry Bones, 3~4 Dark Casters, and 3~4 Burning Skulls all at once, or was that from the 20 Water Candles I had collected once I stepped in the place? I eventually need to go back and collect more Chain Lights, Books, and Spikes for my project.

Is there any way to keep the game running when it's not the active application?

That seems to be normal as far as I can tell. You also run into areas in Dungeons that have like MEGA spawn rates where there is a bunch of tunnels around you that all come together. Its a weird occurrence and it drives me insane. The MOMENT you kill one enemy another one spawns and falls down to you or runs out of a room at you. Its good if you're farming them but evil as hell if you are trying to open a chest or collect materials. The best way I've found to explore dungeons for books lights and stuff is to move very quickly to different areas. The monsters end up getting stuck and cant follow quickly which causes the respawn in your area to lag behind as well. Or at least it seems to work for me.

First time in Multiplayer, very smooth. Krye jumping on my dynamite and exploding was the funniest thing I've seen in a long time.

Just find a nice big area with minimal lava and drop in dynamite. Voila, tons of hellstone? Dynamite mining meteors is great, so I assume you could do the same with hellstone if you could find large patches.
