I'd also like to see some walls that prevent teleporters from coming into your room.

Other things I want are a teleport ability, both to use while out running around (a personal teleport spell) as well as teleporters that you set up 2 ends that go between your bases. I can see color/letter/number coded ones that only connect to each other. So if you want to go between bases, you have to almost set up a teleporter room.

It only took like 40 minutes to do all together.

Buckets only move 1 block at a time, so I just set up 1-9 as buckets, with 10 as the magic mirror. Once I made a shaft down to a large layer of lava, I just dropped down it, kit the keys in order as I filled them up, then teleported back up to my bed (which is in that little house above) and filled up the hole and repeated.

You could have just used 1 bucket and the infinite lava trick.

I didn't really understand how it worked from the wiki instructions, and every time I tried it, I couldn't get it to work. The lava would fall off both sides, but it'd just be a hovering red block that I couldn't pick up with a bucket and it wasn't falling to the bottom of the well. I Played around with it for 5 minutes before I just gave up and started working on the hellevator.

Oh, I guess it makes sense to use more than 1 bucket at a time! lol

Look up the obsidian generating machine on youtube. It has explanations (and pictures) for making both water and lava generators.

My biggest complaint about this game is that the majority of the content doesn't keep the same pace the game had at the beginning. It took me like 3 days to get to the point where I was wearing Silver shit and killing my first boss, but like the day after that I was smacking fire imps with a Muramasa.

Yeah, I am really hoping that these alternative alien/evil/etc. worlds will each reset the progress back to the rate like when you first start and introduce enough difficult mobs to make something like holding the attack button on a Muramasa not the best battle tactic.

Biggest issue I've seen is the dungeon being semi-accessible at night.

How I beat the Old Man was just setting up a house next to the dunegon, set up a bed, and then spawn the Skeletron and die. Then for the next 5-6 minutes to you can go through and pop a few chests, die and go in again. Ended up getting a Muramasa, which made fighting him a joke. I was nowhere close to beating him before I got it.

wow, Cobalt Shield is fucking amazing for raiding the Dungeon. Normally I have to hookshot/ivy whip the ground to keep myself in one place so I can open chests, but with the Cobalt Shield you can pretty much do whatever to raid chests/books/candles without worrying about falling and shit. Not to mention it gives 2 DEF which is nice along with the Molten Armor, although I definitely go through potions faster in the Dungeon than anywhere else because of the sheer volume of enemies that spawn.

Speaking of which, I read somewhere that the DEF bonus on the Molten Set doesn't even work, is this true? If that's true it's so tempting to use Cobalt full-time for the attack speed bonus, but I still feel like I take a lot less damage with molten than with all other armors.

Anyway yea, what's everyone's accessory loadout like? Mine is usually:
    -Obsidian Skull
    -Shiny Red Balloon
    -Lucky Horseshoe
    -Band of Regeneration
-either Hermes Boots, Flippers, or Cobalt Shield depending on what I'm doing

Ok so... tips? What should I be doing really? I am still trying to get out of a Minecraft frame of mind so I am just looking for the ores! I am also just digging straight down, no idea if I even should be. Other than a couple lenses to make my sorry ass goggles, and a heart upgrade or two I haven't found much. I did just manage to find enough ore to make an anvil finally though!

Looking for chests for good acessories, hearts for more health, and looking for silver/gold to make armor to help you beat a baws. Once you beat a baws the game goes real quick.

I'm actually in the middle of typing up a basic progression guide for my bf (who I am trying to convince to play the game, thus avoiding the "you're paying more attention to terraria than me" argument) so I'll post that here too when I'm done lol

-Chop down trees for wood, killing slimes while you do it

-Make torches first, then a workbench, then a wooden sword. You can probably get away with not making a Hammer until you find some ores.

-Go either mine or explore caves, mine enough stone to make a furnace. Save your iron ore early on for an Anvil and for chests. You can use your copper to make a Hammer. Save mostly everything you find, including 10 of any kind of gem.

-Build a few rooms (chair, table, light source, and any back wall except dirt), a Merchant will move in once you collect enough money, big things to buy from him include a piggy bank (useful to store all your money so you don't lose it when you die) and a Mining Helmet. Remember that the Guide will probably take the first room you build.

-With enough exploration you can find enough silver and gold to upgrade your armor (Gold Pickaxe is most important, then a gold weapon, and use whatever gold/silver is leftover for armor). Hopefully you will have killed enough skeletons to get a hook for a grapple.

-Go raid the floating island chests for shiny red balloon and lucky horseshoe. You can usually find some silver/gold deposits on the floating islands as well.

-By this point you should have found some bombs or dynamite in urns/chests and the Demolitionist should have moved in, assuming you built him a room. Buy 1 or 2 sticks of dynamite and travel to the corruption. Find one with a relatively thin layer of ebonstone between you and the shadow orb and blow it up, then smash the orb with a Hammer.

-A meteor should fall the next day, be careful of meteor heads and damage from touching the ore. If you've got the money, blast mining makes collecting meteor ore easy. First thing you should make is a phaseblade, then use whatever meteor ore is leftover to upgrade your Armor.

At this point you can go about things however you want:
-If you're not ready to fight any bosses, you can start a new world and smash 1 shadow orb, then wait for a meteor to fall and mine that for more ore (since the first meteor tends to fall somewhat quickly and predictably), and repeat until you've got all the meteor ore you want.

-You can also smash 2 more orbs and try to take out Eater of Worlds, save your Demonite Ore and Shadow Scales to make a Nightmare Pickaxe first. You should also get a piece of Shadow Armor from him.

-Similarly, you can go find the underground jungle and start farming stingers/roses to upgrade your grapple to an ivy whip, or trying to find Cobalt Armor.

-Once you have a Nightmare Pickaxe you should find some obsidian, either by looking for a place where water and lava meet or mining downward and bringing the water with you. Make an Obsidian skull and save the rest.

-Now you can mine downward to the underworld, and start mining Hellstone ore. You will need a hellforge to make ingots (remember they require obsidian) which you can pick up by mining any bricks underneath ones that you find in the underworld. Personally I'd start with a Molten Pickaxe before armor, since it makes mining the rest of it a lot easier.

-Once you feel somewhat confident you can go beat Skeletron and start raiding the dungeon in order to find a Muramasa. You can do this before going to the Underworld if you want to upgrade to Necro armor before Molten (cobwebs are plentiful in the underground jungle should you choose to do this).

    Some tips:

-The easiest way to find flippers is to run to the edge of the world and see if there are any underwater chests at the edge of the screen.

-Remember to be careful with big horizontal bridges you build while trying to find the floating islands. It may make it a bit easier to find fallen stars, but if a meteor lands on one of these it only gives you a 1 block wide strip of ore.

-Giant mushrooms don't regrow, so if you want them to still be around you should only cut down the little ones. You can still get mushroom grass seeds from the small ones.

-Unlike the demolitionist with bombs/dynamite, you have to carry a gun in your inventory until the Arms Dealer shows up, it doesn't work to have it in a chest.

    oh shit, patch time:

    Player

Players can no longer repeatedly double jump after touching the top of the world.

    Items

    NEW ITEM - Black Lens.
    NEW ITEM - Sunglasses.
NEW ITEM - Jungle Armor (This has replaced Cobalt Armor.)
NEW ITEM - (RARE and SECRET Item for casters) Go on! Find it!
Fixed a bug that prevented Underground Jungle Seeds from spawning.
Using the Cloud in a Bottle will now correctly reset fall distance.
Set bonuses that provide more defense, now correctly match their tool-tip.
All armor inventory icons have been improved.
All player armor graphics have been improved.
Iron, gold, meteor, and bone helmets have been changed graphically.
Molten armor’s overall defense has been reduced.
Meteor armor’s set bonus now reduces Space Gun mana cost to 0.
Several magic items have had their damage increased.

    NPCs

Added two new rare enemies that can both be found underground.
The Demolitionist is now also triggered to arrive when the players have Sticky Bombs and Grenades in their inventory.
All Skeleton graphics have been changed.
The Guide now has hit and death effects.
The Guide can now be killed by hostile NPCs.

    World

Trees now become corrupt instead of being destroyed when touching the corruption. And the new corrupt trees become un-corrupted upon purification.

    Server / Multiplayer

Created a console server with no video card requirement. Type help in the console for a full list of server commands.
Increased client side multi-player security, this should help in the battle against broken character files.
There is now a host and play option in the client, that will auto connect you to your own server world upon its creation.
Corrected a bug that was causing the Server to send out liquid as water when it should have been lava.
Clients are now able to connect to ports other than 7777.
Slimes are synced better on multiplayer games.
Accessories now correctly sync between players.
Fixed a bug that would cause the player to get stuck on "Receiving Tile Data" when their spawn is placed near the world edge.
Added -join <ip>, -port <port>, and -pass <password> command line parameters to the client to enable auto-join of servers.

    Misc.

The game window is now re-sizable while in windowed mode.
Full-screen resolution can now be changed in the options menu.
Pressing alt+enter to toggle full-screen mode will no longer bring up the chat window.
Fixed several bugs that would crash the game during world generation.

A Note for those of you who want to host a server but don't want to use the 'Host and Play' option. The server software is located in your steam folder where the Terraria.exe is. It can be launched from there.

    edit
Jungle Set looks really weird, they said the Cobalt Armor is making a return in a different form btw (which is good cuz I really liked the look of it)

    Info on the new items/mobs
    Spoiler: show

Black Lenses drop from Demon Eyes
New rare item is Wizard Hat, which drops from "Tim", a new skeleton caster mob that spawns at the stone level (shoots through walls ala dark casters)
Other new mob is Dead Miner, which wears a mining helmet and also appears at stone level. You get bombs from it as drops, and it drops hooks more often than regular skeletons.

    I love this game

edit edit: omg, being able to resize = amazing, my window is fucking huge now

I gotta say, I picked up this game expecting to hate it since I normally don't care for building games like Minecraft, but this game really had its hooks into me for the last week. I'm really shocked the game only took a few months to make even with the SNES graphics and it's great to see they're still going to be pumping out a ton of content. It seems like they'll be able to push out new updates ridiculously fast after they iron out the base game if they could build the entire game in 1/3rd of year, never in my life would I think I'd be so giddy over a $10 game.

Thanks Atreides! Quick question, I have a Nurse that moved into one of my houses and recently saw "A Merchant has arrived" popup... but I am not having much luck finding him. He clearly has to be in one of the houses I have built right? Do the NPCs take a little time to move in or what?

They should move into an available bedroom at nightfall

(as long as there's an empty room for him)
